Independence

The sun shines hard upon the grass
And waits in time to finally pass
A child plays amongst its rays
It's one of those forgotten days
When love is real

His mother tends her radiant flowers
Using all of the Earth's powers
The child bores of blocks and toys
And scans around for different joys
Then he sees the path

A quaint, wooded path that enters trees
Brings this boy up off his knees
He studies his guard to wait for "stop"
And waits for the trowel in her hand to drop
But she does not see

He enters the green and inviting place
Like a visitor to outer space
Fascinated by plants and bugs
This little boy will need no hugs
To feel at home

As he walks he is took back
By all the beauty life used to lack
The trees and flowers are vibrant and bright
Waiting patiently for the night
And so it comes

All of a sudden to the child
His leafy playhouse becomes the wild
The trees and flowers lose their charm
And frightening sounds bring thoughts of harm
The child runs hard

It is not long before the boy
Is lost among his new found toy
The tears of salt and water flow
As cries of sadness from him go
The cries are heard by one

Young time flies before he's found
Dirty and sobbing on the ground
By an angel clothed all in white
Whose presence simply removes the fright
A single candle glows

This mother carries back her son
Now as the day is finally done
She tucks him in and kisses his eyes
In which she tastes tears from his cries
Now he is safe

In life we find we want to stray
To find new works and different days
But parents always hear our cry
When beautiful worlds around us die
Do not forget
