Seafood Lovin' & Tales of Grandma's

My grandmother, Louise, was the Angel of Seafood. If there was just one thing you could say about her, it would be that she loved to cook Seafood!

She lived on the bay near Galveston Island, Texas. She had a pier out front and the shrimp house was just at the end of her block.

I remember when I was little girl, I would ride my bike down to her house, picking up cattails on the way with my older sister, Susan. We would have a big seafood dinner 2-3 times a week and the whole family would come to satisfy their appetites. My sister and I would park our bikes outside her porch and toss our cattails to the side and go bouncing into the kitchen. We would all walk down the street to the Shrimp House where my Grandmother would get fresh oysters and shrimp. I was always mesmerized by the dumping of the shrimp into this big basin and see them divide the shrimp up from the tiny fish and crabs that were also caught in the nets.  On the way back, we would stop and get the crabs out of the crab trap at the end of her pier.

I was Grandma's little helper. Helping eat samples she would slip me when no one was watching. Even though by dinnertime my tummy was nearly full, I always had room for her stuffed deviled crab, the one thing she wouldn't let me sample from the kitchen.

There is nothing quite like Southern Seafood.  If you're not able to make it to Mom's, then Kemah, Texas is the place to go.  Or you might be able to catch my Brother-n-law riding through town, he makes a mean fried catfish.

Hi!  Welcome to my Author Web Page.  I'm Carey.  I grew up in Texas living in Houston, and in East Texas, and am currently a Nebraska Girl.

I spent my college years in Las Vegas gaining a degree in Accounting from The University of Nevada.  I spent many years contributing time to the consumer finance industry, specifically to credit cards.  I worked in the credit card industry for over ten years from the front end application process to the end collection process and everything in between.  My favorite time was spent in the Rewards Specialty Department where customers redeem for free things earned from their credit cards.  I also worked as a Bank Teller and it was very interesting to see the flip side of things: helping people accumulate wealth instead of debt.

I also have a very creative side and I love to write.  I currently reside in Nebraska with my husband, Glen, and our two puppy dogs, Marilyn & Cubby.
The Puppy Princess Series is based on our dog Marilyn, a colorful tale of the puppies at the puppy house waiting to be adopted.  Read the first tale for free and read on for all of the stories of the whole gang of puppies.

We reside in a small town in Nebraska in the country.  The future is in the MidWest and we are glad to be part of Nebraska.  We hit the jackpot with the little small town we live in and the people just don't get any nicer.  The country life is fun and filled with many suprises.  We definately missed out on alot living in the city.  We have found our secret paradise, have you found yours?

If you need to refuel with a little motivation, be sure to read
