This speaker stand is of a very simple construction being just metal tube and plate welded together. In the top plate are four holes for screw mounting your speaker, but as an alternative consider using 'Blu-Tack' or a similar putty (the stuff people use to mount posters on walls with). By using a putty you won't damage your speaker casing and it really easy to diassemble if you've got to move your stands. After welding the pieces together throughly rub down the surfaces with steel wool or abrasive paper to provide a clean surface prior to painting. I'd recommended priming the surface with at least one coat of acrylic car paint primer prior to spraying with the colour of your choice (I sprayed mine a dark metallic 'Hurricane Grey' and very nice they look too !).
Although not absolutly necessary you can fill the tube after welding with dry sand to eliminate resonance, but to be honest I didn't do this to the set I built and it has'n't been a problem so I wouldn't worry (plus it adds to the weight).

Have Fun
