To make your pop shield you will need to make the three items shown on the enclosed drawings plus a M8 nut, a M8 std washer and some gauze (Use your imagination to source the gauze !).
When making the parts note that the inner ring (the one with a bit cut out) has a slightly larger hole drilled in it, since when it is deformed to fit inside the outer ring thr hole will pinch up a little bit. When getting the boss turned take the boom of your mic stand along with you to ensure you get the correct matching thread cut into the boss.
After all items have been made you can prime the plastic rings with acrylic primer (as used on cars) and spray in the colour of your choice.
To assemble, strech the gauze until tight over the inner ring and on the outer ring place some glue on the inner face, (be careful in your selection of glue since some can react with nylon in a nasty way).Pinch the inner ring together and place inside the outer ring keeping the gauze tight (ensure that the holes for the boss are aligned). Leave for 24 Hours to set.
Next cut awy the surplus gauze, leaving the remaing tight and drum like in the ring, insert the boss and lock with the nut and washer.
This might seem a lot of work but the end result looks great.
As an alternative though you could try this, and use a wooden sewing hoop (available from wool shops etc) strech the gauze over it and sew in position. Its just as effective but doesn't look so good.
Feel fre to use or adapt this design to suit your needs.
