She has an inquiring mind, and is able to make good use of her intuition. Completely trusting at first, she soon learns that all is not what it seems and quickly adapts to the chaos wrought by Galiel.
Neri is the only one who can communicate, both directly and telepathically, with the Sacred Whale, Mandrool. Mandrool send her visions, guiding Neri in times of doubt and uncertainty. As Neri progresses in her quest to save Oceana, she becomes more confident in her own abilities, able to make decisions quickly and act upon them with courage.
Kind and forgiving, Neri is the Promised One destined to lead Oceana to safety. She is next in line to the Oceanan throne.
Ruthless and cunning, Galiel has the ability to enter beings weaker than himself. He uses this power for his own means by possessing the old Kings mind. This is exhausting for Galiel, and he must constantly return to his chamber to re-energise himself through the crystal.
Physically, Galiel is now almost a mere skeleton, a shadow of his former self. He floats in a chamber, bathed in the green glow of his stolen crystal, to which he is attached by a great umbilical cord.
Neanda is Neris faithful protector and companion, dedicated to guarding Neri after she saved him from drowning many years ago. He is very frightened of water and struggles to overcome his fear and thus honour his oath to protect Neri at all times.
A member of the Cave Dweller Clan, Neanda has a very gentle disposition and a big, powerful lumbering body.
Neris uncle, King Nemon, presides Oceana with gentle wisdom. He becomes an easy target for Galiel, who possesses his mind in order to find out where the crystals have been hidden.
Until he his able to defeat Galiel from possessing his mind, King Nemon becomes increasingly confused by the events surrounding Oceanas fate.
Zardor is the Chief of the Amphibian warrior clan, members of which can exist both in and out of the water. For Zardor, disputes can only be settled through confrontation. He is totally loyal to King Nemon and this prevents him from seeing through the possession of the King by the Space Wizard, Galiel.
Physically, he is short and squat, which sets him apart from his taller, more angular troops, however he makes up for his diminutive statue by being a determined strategist and tactician.
Laziah is the very wise leader of the Cave Dweller Clan who possesses shaman-like qualities.
Laziah and his clan can only exist on land and have a natural fear of water. He is big, hairy and strong as are all the Cave Dweller members. They are not natural warriors, preferring to lead a quiet existence in the caverns of Oceana. They have deep, gentle voices that reflect their peaceful natures.
Mandrool is the gigantic Sacred Whale of Oceana. She is the keeper of all wisdom and the only link to the glorious past. This is the second time that she has witnessed Galiels quest for eternal life. Mandrool lives in the depths of the ocean in a sanctuary that was once an ancient palace. She is the only one who knows where the three remaining crystals are hidden.
Only members of the Royal Family can communicate with Mandrool and she has the power to send visions and dreams to Neri in times of trouble.
Sharkana is the Captain of the Oceanan Royal Guard and close personal protector of King Nemon. He is devoted, conservative and always serious.
Sharkana is so strict in his observance of royal protocol, that he fails to recognise when the King has been possessed and thus, still obeys his odd orders
