ANSON DORRANCE successfully recruited Carondelet of Concord superstar Tiffany Roberts to Chapel Hill last year to play for his North Carolina women's soccer juggernaut, and now he's after senior Lorrie Fair from Los Altos High.

Dorrance, whose Tar Heels won the Stanford Invitational last weekend, made a home visit to Lorrie and her family Saturday.

''There he was, the guy who won a world championship (as U.S. national-team coach) and 12 NCAA titles (at UNC), sitting across from me in my living room,'' Fair said. ''I was in awe.'' Fair, a 1994 Parade magazine high school All-American, and her twin sister, Ronnie Fair, the CCS player of the year for the 1994-'95 season, are being heavily recruited by most of the nation's top soccer schools.

Lorrie Fair, lauded by U.S. national-team coach Tony DiCicco after showing well in a camp for national-team veterans and prospects Sept. 21-30 in San Diego, has visited Portland. She also has scheduled recruiting trips to Duke, Notre Dame, Stanford and North Carolina.

Ronnie Fair, who recently returned to playing club soccer after recuperating from knee and ankle injuries suffered in a game last spring, has visited Harvard. She also will be going to Duke and Notre Dame with her sister, followed by visits to Stanford and Santa Clara.

There is no assurance the sisters will make the same choice.

''It would be fun to play with Lorrie in college, but we won't be basing our decisions on that,'' Ronnie Fair said.

''Lorrie is going to pick the school that best suits her, and I'm going to choose the one that's best for me. If it turns out to be the same place, great.''
