1. Is this a "beauty" pageant?
Definitely not!  Pre-Teens are scored 30% on Academics/Achievements, 30% Personal Interview, 20% Poise and Presentation in Gown, and 20% on Personality Projection.  Petites are 1/3 each Interview, Poise/Appearance, and Personality.  Appearance is not judged on facial beauty in our program, but on neatness of dress, hair, etc.

2. Will I have fun while I'm at the program weekend?

Yes!  Fun events are planned for the weekend, like pizza/autograph parties, lunches, rehearsals, and free time by the pool.  You will meet girls from all around the state and make many new friends!  Every program is geared toward the family.

3.  I don't know how to dance and I hear each program starts with a dance number.  What will I do?  Will I have to wear something special for this?

A choreographer will work with you on a production number that everyone will be able to do.  If you can move, you can do it!  The outfit will be an NPT logo shirt (provided for you at registration) and white shorts.  You will recieve all this information from the director in a mailing.

4.  I would like to be in the pageant, but how do I get sponsors?

The best place to begin is where your family does business.  Examples are insurance companies, banks, doctors, dentists, local stores, etc.  Call ahead to make an appointment.  Dress neatly when you visit them.  Visiting potential sponsors is good practice for your interview.  Most sponsors will want to ask questions about you and the program.

5. What do the sponsors recieve for sponsoring me?

They recieve recognition in the state program book, and should you win the state title or become a runner-up, they will also recieve recognition in the national program book.

6.  Do I have to sell advertising to enter?

No, we do not sell ads in the program book.  No fundraising is necessary, except if you choose to find sponsors.

7.  Will I have to buy a lot of new clothes if I am selected as a state finalist?

Not necessarily.  Casual clothes are worn for rehearsal.  For your interview, wear a nice dress, suit, or skirt and blouse like you might wear to church.  We suggest your formal gown be borrowed from a friend if you can.  Pre-Teens' dresses should be floor-length.  Petites may be short.

8.  Do you have talent, sportswear, essay, or other divisions, and is there a fee?

We have many optional events.  Some have entry fees and some do not.  Among them are:  Talent, Sportswear, Photo Miss, Spirit of Service, Holiday Gift, and Citizen's Scholarship Foundation.  The director will explain all about entering and costs of these events in a mailing.  Remember, these categories ARE OPTIONAL!

9.  If I do not enter any optionals, will it affect my scoring for the state title?

The optional events are judged by a separate panel of judges and have no bearing on the scoring for the overall title.

10.  What are the benefits of entering the program?

Besides trophies, prizes, and money awards, are self-confidence, the experience of an interview, and the experience of being onstage in front of an audience.  But by far the best is quotes by a past finalist, "I didn't win any awards onstage, but I did win a whole bunch of new friends."

11. What about scholarships?

The Miss National Pre-Teen program offers all state finalists the chance to apply for college scholarship money when they become high school seniors.

12.  If I win, where will I go next?

You will have your travel and entry fee paid to attend the National Competition held in Orlando, Florida the week of Thanksgiving.  While there you will visit a theme park, take part in parties, and practice in rehearsals for big performance where you will shine like the star you are.

13.  If I'm a runner-up at the state program, can I attend nationals?

Yes.  As a runner-up you automatically become a National Princess Finalist.  You may decide to attend the national program where you will be treated the same as the state titleholders but will compete within your own division.

14.  What if I have other questions?
We would love to hear from you!  You may write, call, fax, or e-mail your questions to us.  We will be glad to answer any you may have!
