Tears In The Darkness
By : Yuki Fanel
He sat on
her bed slowly, careful not to wake her up in the process. He brought his
finger across her cheek, caressing it gently. *Such innocence…I destroyed it slowly and this is what she has become…it
is all my fault…* He frowned and brushed a stray
lock of silver hair from her pale face.
Her eyes
opened slowly, gold eyes staring at him sleepily.
“Folken-sama?” she sat up gracefully, keeping the blanket
close to her as if it were her teddy bear.
“I’m
sorry to wake you, Aeon. I…just couldn’t sleep properly.” he frowned slightly.
“It’s
alright. I used to come to you like this, right?”
Her smile
illuminated her pale face. *She looks so
innocent but her eyes show no sign of it.* Her
smile disappeared a few seconds later, looking away as if to hide something.
“What is
it? Is there something wrong?”
Folken removed his boots
and placed his feet on the bed. It felt soft under him, comforting to the pain
he felt.
“Nothing. Its
just that…there is pain. I can feel it. It is everywhere.” she hugged her
knees, placing her chin on them.
“We
always feel the pain inside, Aeon. That is what dark angels are for. Draconian
or not.” he smiled slightly, gesturing her to turn around.
“But…is
it alright to cry? Sometimes I just can’t bear it any longer. It feels so right
to cry but I’m afraid it might be a mistake.”
She
turned around, facing the headboard of her bed. Folken
hugged her from behind, placing his chin on her shoulder slightly with a smile.
“You must
cry. It may seem like a mistake but it isn’t. If you cry, it’s as if you
release all the pain you have inside.”
Aeon began to tremble in his
grasp. He heard sobs from her, very faint but audible enough. He tightened the
embrace as if silently assuring her that he was there for her.
“Cry now
if you want to. It will help you greatly.”
“We’ve
talked about this a lot of times now. We always end up crying. Before, it would
only come a tear at a time. But now, it feels as if it
is too much. I cry uncontrollably.” she covered her face with her hands as if
ashamed.
“Its alright, Aeon. It won’t hurt.” he said, rocking her
gently.
“But at
least, when we are together, we dampen each other’s pain. It lessens it right?”
her voice cracked.
“Yes.
Just keep silent. It will go away.” he hushed her silently, rocking her gently
in the process.
Her sobs
began to soften until it was all gone. Her breathing can be heard in the
silence between them. *It dampens the
pain, Aeon. It does. You dampen mine.* His eyes became heavy with sleep. He
couldn’t let go of the little girl in his arms. He just couldn’t bear another
night with her crying. He just needed to stay where he was and sleep.
