Jakob’s Well

By : Elicuanan

I’m staying here for a while. I have a feeling that I look strange. A quiet figure standing by an old well. The bucket is in my hand and I’m looking at the water below. For generations, this well has been giving us water, for us, our flocks. Here our great ancestor, Jakob, drank, and so do I.

And I still thirst.

I thirst for a society’s understanding. I thirst for your understanding. I thirst for equality.

I am a woman! But before that, I am a human being.

I need to eat, sleep, drink, and breathe. I cannot feed myself on the dreams of everyday.

I am a woman. Of bad reputation or no, I still feel thirsty.

I drink. And I know even after I drink, I will thirst again.

I look up and a man sits in the shade of the tree.

He smiles.

“Give me a drink”

The End
