1. Three rejections! I can’t believe it!

A: What?!  I failed another test? I can’t believe it!

 

2. Will Mr. Casey let Rebecca go to San Francisco?

A: I plan to study abroad in Europe next year.

B: Good for you! Will your parents really let you go to Europe alone?

 

3. Your mother always wanted to be a singer.

A: When I was young, I wanted to be a fireman.

B: What do you want to be now?

A: Now, I want to be a musician or a businesswoman.

 

4.Rebecca doesn’t know anyone in San Francisco. OR  I don’t know anything.

A: Do you have any friends who could help me with my Chinese homework?

B: Sorry, I don’t know anyone who speaks Chinese.

 

A: Do you know anything about Korean history?  I have a big test, and I don’t understand it.

B: Sorry, I don’t know anything about history.

 

A: What do you think about Nate?

B: He’s a terrible teacher; he doesn’t know anything.

 

5. What’s the matter? Is he sick?

A: Can you pick up my friend at school today?

B: What’s the matter? Did your car break down?

 

6. They turned me down.

A: You look so sad.  What’s the matter?

B: I asked Jane to be my girlfriend, but she turned me down.

 

7. No way!

A: Hey, girl.  Do you want a ride in my Porsche?

B: No way!

 

A: Will you do my homework for me?

B: No way!

 

A: Will you be my girlfriend?

B: No way!
