| Whip came around slowly. Her mouth felt as if she'd been eating sand and her lip burned where it had split when David hit her. She could hear something in the distance. It sounded like someone was talking. Concentrating on that sound, she tried to pull herself towards it. As the drugs started to wear off, she realized it wasn't talking, but singing. Low and soft, someone was singing to her. Some people say fallin' in love is purely chance The random blend of time and place, circumstance That couldn't be farthest from the truth Cause with you It wasn't the stars in the sky That got to me that night Or the music that we were dancing to It wasn't the moon up above That had me falling in love It was more than all those things alone could do, It was you Whip's eyes slowly opened, fluttering slightly. She blinked them, focusing on a pair of deep green eyes. Lance smiled softly, continuing. I do believe we're all a part of some greater plan The only angels in our hearts can understand Somehow, I know I'd found my place When I saw your face Lance's fingers lightly touched Whip's face, tracing over her swollen lips, which pursed to kiss them in return. It wasn't the stars in the sky That got to me that night Or the music that we were dancing to It wasn't the moon up above That had me falling in love It was more than all those things alone could do, It was you *song coutesy of Trace Adkins Whip smiled as the last note died away on his lips. Lance gazed at her, thankful every second that she was okay. Slowly he leaned up and brushed a soft kiss against her lips. ~*~ Throughout the morning, everyone had stopped by to see Whip. They'd all heard about what happened and were glad that she was okay. The officer had stopped back in and Whip answered all his questions, no matter how painful the memories were. She wanted to make sure David got what he deserved this time. After the policeman left, she and Lance just sat there, talking quietly. Around noon, the doctor finally came in with her dismissal papers and Whip was ready to get out of there. Shay helped her get ready while Lance and Joey went down to get the car. They were waiting at the door when Shay wheeled her out in the wheelchair. Lance gently helped her into the backseat and got in beside her. Shay hopped in the front with Joey and they headed back to the hotel. Whip was quiet, which worried Lance, but she assured him she was fine, pressing her hand to his cheek. Once they got back to the hotel and Whip was taken to Joey and Shay's room, she and Lance were left alone again. She hadn't wanted to go back to her room so Lance had asked Shay and Joey to get their things. While they were gone, Whip leaned into Lance's arms and he laid his head on her shoulder, breathing in her scent. "Are you okay baby?" Whip mumbled something and Lance pulled away, looking at her in earnest. "What was that?" "I said I love you," Whip repeated, a soft smile spreading on her lips. Lance engulfed her in his arms again, kissing her forehead. "I love you too baby." THE END |
