| Lance lay, propped up on his elbow, watching her sleep. She was so beautiful. Everytime he looked at her, he felt his heart beat a little faster and that little hitch at the back of his throat. His eyes slowly moved their way down the contours of her face, coming to rest on her lips. Slightly parted, they were full and inviting. By now, he knew their velvety softness well, but he smiled, thinking back to when she had first graced him with their touch. She'd been so shy about it that he felt himself chuckling at the memory. Their first kiss was.....interesting to say the least. It wasn't what either of them had expected or planned on, that was for sure. He had been at a small coffee shop, drinking a latte' and going over some paperwork. Suddenly this whirlwind came flying in the front door, stopping to survey the patrons frantically. Zeroing in on him, she looked behind her and cringed. Lance was a little puzzled, but didn't give it another thought as he went back to reading. "Excuse me," a timid voice asked him nervously. Lance looked up again, finding her directly in front of him. She had the darkest brown eyes he'd ever seen and she was biting her bottom lip, glancing behind her again. "Yes," Lance said, wondering what she was so upset about. "Look, I ummm....." she started, "I know that you don't know me, but could you help me out a little?" Lance was tempted to say no, but she looked so hopeful and pleading that he was curious. "What kind of help are you looking for," he responded, noticing that she was fidgeting constantly. Not answering, she took a seat in the chair beside him and leaned close. Lance instantly caught a whiff of something light and flowery and he wondered what could possibly have her so tense. "In a few seconds, a guy is going to come through that door," she explained quickly, "I need you to act as if we're involved." Lance's eyes widened and he sat back, waiting for her to continue. "Please," she pleaded with him now, placing her hand atop his, "You're the only guy here alone and I wouldn't ask, but.......I really need your help." Lance didn't know why, but he nodded. Why he should help this girl when he had no clue who she was or what kind of trouble she was in was beyond him, but he found himself drawn to her. She told him her name was April and asked him his. "Uh...it's Lance," he replied. She started to explain her irrational behavior to him when the bell above the door chimed and she looked over her shoulder. A gruff looking man had entered the shop and she quickly turned back to him, leaning close again. "That's him," she whispered, "Please don't hate me for this." With that, she slipped her hand behind his neck, licking her bottom lip, and before he knew what was happening, her lips were on his. Shocked, he balked at first, but settled easily into the kiss. Soft and trembling, her lips were unlike any he had ever encountered and he began to kiss her back. Lightly at first, then deeper, until he was lost in their depths. Reaching his hand up to cup her face, he felt her tremble again. He traced her lips with the tip of his tongue, making them part in surprise. Lance took the opportunity and slid his tongue in between them, flicking the roof of her mouth before tasting her fully. The bell chimed again and April pulled back slowly, her lips swollen and quivering. Lance wanted nothing more than to lose himself in them again, but she took a deep breath and peered behind her again. The man was gone. She started to get up, opening her mouth to thank him, but Lance caught hold of her hand and kept her in place. "I think," he began, "That you should tell me what that was all about." She glanced up at him and looked back down at her hands. Biting her bottom lip again, she blew out a breath and started to talk. The man that had come in was a creepy guy from her apartment building that followed her everywhere. He was constantly asking her out and even though she turned him down everytime, he persisted. She'd hoped that if he saw her in here kissing someone else that he'd leave her alone. She figured he must have gotten the point because he was gone. Again, she thanked him and started to get up to leave. Again, Lance held her in place. Thinking back, it was kind of funny. Most relationships started with seeing someone across a crowded room or meeting them through friends or any number of ways. Who'd have thought that theirs would have started with a simple surprise kiss. Looking down at her again, he couldn't help himself and pressed his lips softly on hers. He felt her smile under his touch before kissing him back and he let himself fall in love all over again. |
