How to Loose a Guy in 10 Days

Yes you know the ones - a cute picture of a blonde bombshell on the poster and a catchy title about dating that makes you take the bait once more and like the real thing it is very much hit and miss - one or two turkeys but most of them have enough to keep you amused during their duration managing not to be bad enough to put you off the next one for too long.

Surprise surprise it is set in New York City but we don get to see much of it and there is no ice rink scene or romantic walks in Central Park in the Autumn (or should that be Fall.) Oh and yes they are both in fashionable professions - this time it publishing and marketing I guess that because the popularity of the "World's Second Oldest Profession" has slumped in the focus group polling.

The scriptwiters were inspired by the main plot line from Les Liaisons Dangereux which is by the way far superior at the theatre as the tension is built up through the play and the sword fighting scene is for real ten rows back. Back in New York a wager is made with a young executive in the advertising agency that he couldn't trap and hold onto a given woman for a period of ten days. The woman works in an all female publishing house with surroundings far more palatial than our humble non-air conditioned offices here at NDBO.ORG. The usual mayhem ensues and let just say they've modernised the sex scene.

A period of enlightenment follows following a visit to Staten Island to meet the prospective mother-in-law rather than the famous jail

And yes it comes to a climax when everyone is thrown together at the launch for an ad campaign for a leading diamond producer. A sophisticated black tie affair but that doesn't stop the guests plotting and flirting in equal amounts and she walks out with the prize diamond by mistake and we were just getting ready for the car chase when she just handed it back. Maybe rewritten as a result of the focus groups who knows.

I'll finish with the customary rewrite.

Her: All is Fair in Love and War Agree or Disagree ?

Him(film): Agree

Him (NDBO.ORG): Well I'd draw the line if she had kids and then draw the conversation onto whicxh is the more deadly of the species - entirely at your own risk of course - take a spare shirt if worried..
