Docklands 2

More evidence of building work but this time flats or should I say waterside apartments giving a chance for people to walk or cycle to work thus taking the load off the tube which is just as well as some key projects have been axed by HM Treasury the most notable of which is the East-West RER-like Crossrail project which would have eased the congestion at the overcrowded central area stations.  I usually walk or take a bus by the way.

More flats I think

A shot showing the water some more new building and some bars and restaurants on the left.

Another one of those moody boat shots.

Back towards Canary Wharf and we see a few old cranes painted to act like sculpture representing the history of the area but there is something wrong with such an elegant structure being surrounded by bankers - I felt it the first time I came here during the Summer of 2001 but not this time.  The Parrot and Canary is on the right named presumably in tribute to the creative talent that works locally..

It's beginning to get dark and I start to notice that there is absolutely no one about so I head back to the Canary Wharf area only to find some idiot has forgotten to close the swing bridge.

A continental-style terras filled with boring thirty-somethings most of them left as it was starting to get dark.

Time for the beer shot and as we are in an area know for new international commerce I chose a pint of French Kronenbourg 1664 named after the year the brewery was opined.  Britain's Tallest building Canary Wharf and the HSBC bank form the backdrop.

A still life featuring a bottle of tomato sauce and salt and pepper pots arranged on a bench with the menu underneath enhanced using Paint Shop Pro 8.0.

Sunset and the place empties with one or two revelers arriving for the free disco where the DJ looked to be in a world of his own with his selection of cuts being totally out of tune with the punters - perhaps some Chas and Dave, Slade or Squeeze would have gone down better..

Time for the toilet humour and a variation on the Guys and Dolls one you see in pick up joints well you used to see them anyway.  For the record I asked the manager's permission to take this shot and ended up getting in a conversation about the Internet and World Wide Web.  Still I gave him one of my cards but nothing happened.

A great sculpture on the way to the tube - perhaps the idea is to persuade couple leaving to have a snog before they take the Jubilee line home.  Don't laugh it usually just needs a spark at the right moment and this could be it.

Forward

In the era of The Beckhams, Robbie Williams etc., etc. it is good to see that someone out there has some talent and taste.  This is a new underground shopping complex on the way to the tube station at Canary Wharf.  In a tribute to long suffering commuters there is always at least one escalator out of use in this Sir Norman Foster designed masterpiece.
