Forward

The view towards Amsterdam from the boat.

Forward Backward

Looking the other way towards Newcastle

Forward Backward

Some people will do anything to get on the World Wide Web.

Forward Backward

A combined image of a gas fired power station.

Forward Backward

We have to confess we were intending to go finish up in Alkmaar but somehow took a wrong turn but carried on going expecting to pick it up on the signs again and never did. Anyway here is a shot of the train line to the town famous for cheese and AZ Alkmaar.

Forward Backward

And the A9.

Forward Backward

Once over the motorway it get; incredibly rural and this shot is looking North and we feel very small indeed even though the main Amsterdam to Den Helder train line is in the distance.

Forward Backward

One for the golf fans - a nasty cross wind would make the tee shots difficult I guess. It looks as if you hit the ball too hard it would fly off the end of the Earth.

Forward Backward

After cycling against the wind a blood sugar stop is required and we find an example of an old phone box with it's original paint work.

Forward Backward

A swing bridge on the Zandaam to Enkhuizen line.

Forward Backward

We finally make it to our final destination - the commuter town of Zaandam though we find ourselves in the old square enjoying naturally made products from just outside of München.

Forward Backward

After initial refreshment we took the opportunity to check out the bar names. Here we see Het Wapen van Friesland meaning the Friesland Arms where the arms is as in coat of arms - popular in English pub names,

Forward Backward

And here we have De Tweede Kamer which is the Dutch equivalent of the House of Commons. We have no knowledge of any pub names in England like this presumably as people would expect the pub to keep the same hours and have the same atmosphere as the name suggests.

Forward Backward

Believe you me it takes about a year to get used to extended opening hours but you do get into the habit of leaving the pub before it closes in the end.

Forward Backward

A change of trains at the multi-level station at Amsterdam Sloterdijk. A bit like those at Stratford and Wilesden Junction in London.

Forward Backward

Looking out we see the construction of a boog literally bow that enables direct trains to run from North Holland to Schipol Airport though it is an easy change here. A London tip is to try and remember where the exit is when you get on the train so when you step out the escalator or lift is directly opposite, Someone did a book once on London.

Forward Backward

A shot of the lower level which takes trains from North Holland and Haarlem to and from Amsterdam - the upper level is for the metro, Rotterdam and Schipol.

Forward Backward

The train went back via Haarlem to Den Haag over the route we had traveled during the day - we just took these to get rid of the last four shots in our film. Note the patterned frame generated by our own in-house software. Backward
