Las Vegas Speedway, August 10-11, 2002
This weekend was a total waste of money.
So after paying close to $130 for bulbs, we are told at the driver's meeting that we
cannot use our lights on the track Sat night. Strike one.
We "race" on sat night with the infield half dark. The last 5 laps of the race
were done under yellow. Strike two.
Sunday we race in
the hell that is Vegas @ 1:45 pm. Track temps 160 F and I overheat and blow my engine.
Strike three.
I am out.
So Jude comes over and we proceed to unload the car off the
trailer. It seems that the lower radiator hose came off the radiator and spilled all the
coolant causing the engine to die.
In retrospect that makes sense. The temp stayed steady for a while and then went down some
but climbed up again even though I slowed the car down to a crawl. When the temps started
climbing out of control that is when the car ran out of coolant.
This same thing happened to Jeff on his first outing at ButtonWillow.
This makes me ask if there are any "hard core" clamps that will stop this from
happening in the future.
In a sense I am glad that my car did not overheat by itself w/o a direct cause. I am ok
now that I know why this happened.
Naji...who will never ever go to Vegas again
