A Public Opinion Poll conducted jointly by Professor Shibley Telhami, Anwar Sadat Chair for Peace and Development at the University of Maryland and Zogby International

 

 

Countries included in poll: Jordan, Lebanon, Morocco, Saudi Arabia, Egypt and United Arab Emirates.  Polls were conducted in October 2005.

II.                  Democracy

a.      The United States has been actively advocating the spread of democracy in the Middle East, especially since the Iraq War.  Do you believe that:

                                                          iii.      Do not believe democracy is the real objective

 

III.                Iraq War

a.      Which of the following is your biggest concern about the consequences of war with Iraq?

                                                          iii.      The US will continue to dominate Iraq long after the transfer of power to the Iraqis

Methodology

 

800 interviews were conducted in Egypt from October 18-24, 2005 in Cairo, Alexandria and Luxor. Slight weights were applied to religion, age and education to more accurately reflect the adult population.  MOE +/- 3.5%

 

500 interviews were conducted in Jordan from October 15-23 in Amman, Irbid and Al-Zarqa.  Slight weights were applied to religion, age and education to more accurately reflect the adult population.  MOE +/- 4.5%

 

500 interviews were conducted in Lebanon from October 15-21 in Beirut, Beqaa and Mountain Lebanon and South Lebanon.  Slight weights were applied to religion, age and education to more accurately reflect the adult population.  MOE +/- 4.5%

 

800 interviews were conducted in Morocco from October 15-22 in Rabat, Casablanca and Tangier.  Slight weights were applied to age and education to more accurately reflect the adult population.  MOE +/- 3.5%

 

800 interviews were conducted in Saudi Arabia (KSA) from October 15-21 in Dammam, Riyadh, Jeddah and Mecca.  Slight weights were applied to education and gender to more accurately reflect the adult population.  MOE +/- 3.5%

 

217 interviews were conducted in UAE from October 18-24 in Dubai, Abu Dhabi and Sharjah.  Slight weights were applied to religion, age, education, nationality and city to more accurately reflect the adult population.  MOE +/- 6.8%
