Ranks and Requirements

Thank you to my Craftsecond, Qinan, and my Apprentice Master, Lyxia...and to everyone else in the craft for their ideas and suggestions that have helped in forming these promotion requirements and responsibilities!

Note: "Time" indicates how much time should be spent at MINIMUM in the rank. "OOC" represents any out of character responsibilities of that rank (or things you take with you even when you sign off the MUSH). "IC" presents a general description of what one does as a woodsmith of that rank. "Advancement" lists what we (Malia and Qinan) would like to see you do before you reach the next rank.

General Requirements for each level

Each Journeyrank level is required to send a +mail to the Craftmaster and Craftsecond each month. The +mail is a report of activities you have participated in, commissions received and completed, and other WoodCraft related-RP you've engaged in. This can just be a short little +mail or a long drawn-out report. However you'd like to do it. This will help us in determining when your promotions are due. We can't promote if we don't know what is going on WoodCraft-wise with your character!

Junior Journeyman

Time: 2 RL months

OOC: Represent craft at posting

IC: Jr. Journeyrank is when one receives ones permanant posting. The Jr. Journeyman will stay at the hall a few IC months before being posted out. Their final Mentor will be assigned, likely a high-ranking woodsmith in their subcraft. Often, Jr's are posted out under higher ranking woodsmiths, but there are occasional solitary postings.

Advancement:

  1. Be the woodsmith for your place of posting
  2. Report to CM and CS monthly (see above)

Journeyman

Time: 6 RL Months

OOC: You will still be living at your place of posting and servicing the woodcrafting needs of the holds, halls, and/or weyrs under your coverage. You may take on the direction of a senior apprentice, or a junior journeyman. You may also direct potential woodsmiths to the craft hall...your opinions on these potential members are appreciated by the CM, CS and AM.

IC: Journeymen remain at their posting away from the Hall. If you wish, you may retain a room in the Journeyman's Dorms at the hall. You are representing your craft at your posting, and may have a Sr. Apprentice or a Junior Journeyman posted under you which you will be responsible for training. Journeymen are mostly on their own, but are still answerable to the Hall. They are expected to perform any tasks that the craft asks of them, and to perfect their area of expertise in the craft.

Advancement:

  1. Perform Woodsmith duties at place of posting
  2. Report monthly to the CM and CS
  3. Create a desc for the tent

Senior Journeyman

Time: 2 RL Months

OOC: See Journeyman OOC responsibilities.

IC: The Sr. Journeyman remains away from the hall at their posting. They have a few more responsibilities to deal with, but overall retain the same workload as before. Sr. Journeyman marks someone who has attained a certain high skill level among the WoodCrafting community.

Advancement:

  1. Perform woodsmith duties
  2. Report monthly to the CM and CS
  3. Officially request your promotion to Master
  4. Submit your Journeyrank project

The Journeyrank Project

Before becoming Master, we would like each Journeyranker to submit some form of OOC research or information for the webpage. This could be in the form of a written project that we can add to the information pages, or with an online class containing information that relates to woodcrafting in some way, that is placed in the log section of the website. This research does not have to be a HUGE amount of information (like Qinan's tree research), unless you want to go the extra distance.
