Commissions

At some time in your illustrious career at the WoodCraft Hall, you may find yourself in such demand that you will receive what is known as a commission. A commission is any product that another pays you, or trades services with you, for. Sometimes these commissions are no more than an opportunity for your customer to RP with you. See 'news bargaining' online. Other times, they will actually want a description or an object made by you.Commissions are when someone wants a personalized object or description. Often that customer may have seen your previous work and liked its style. It is important that you understand what your customer wants. Since this is the WoodCraft, you may be asked to make any number of items: stools, chests, wooden goblets, beds or other furniture. In all cases, it will involve the use of wood (WE HOPE!)
Commission Guidelines
The following is a few general questions that could help insure that your customer gets what they want.
- What is it they would like? Let them describe in detail and give any ideas or thoughts that they have about the item.
- Will this item be an actual object or just a description? For example, a broach or hairpin might be just a description that can become a +detail on the wearer, while a bed may be an actual object for a bedroom.
- When do they want this object? It is IMPORTANT that you deliver by the date you set with your customer.
- Preferences:
- Light or Dark wood: You can use this to pick out a certain type of wood for the project. It can also help you in developing the description of the object, shading that may be used, and help in determining how the finishing touches will look.
- Type of Finish: Sanded? Plain wood? Stained? Painted?
- Carving Type: Engraved? Relief? Carving?
Apprentices remember! ALL of your projects MUST be approved by your mentor or a WoodCraft Master before delivery!
