Regimental Band: 8 men (6 drawn from Co. E, 2 form Co. D)
Company A: 175 officers and men. Known as the "Davidson Guards", was raised in Davidson County and enlisted at Lexington, NC on May 8, 1861.
Company B: 85 officers and men. Known as the "Yadkin Gray Eagles", was raised in Yadkin County and enlisted at Yadkinville NC, on May 12, 1861. On April 26-28, 1862, it was transferred to the 1st Battalion North Carolina Sharpshooters and designated as Company A of that Battalion.
Company C : 163 officers and men, Known as the "Blue Ridge Riflemen", was raised in Surry County and enlisted at Mt. Airy, NC on May 20, 1861.
Company D: 182 officers and men. Known as the "Forsyth Rifles", was raised in forsyth County and enlisted at Salem NC, on May 29, 1861.
Company E: 94 officers and men. Known as the "Forsyth Grays", and also as the "Forsyth Guards", was raised in Forsyth County and enlisted at Salem NC, on May 24, 1861. It was transferred to the First Battalion North Carolina Sharpshooters and designated as Company B of that Battalion on April 26,1862.
Company F: 187 officers and men. Known as the "Mountain Boys", was raised in Stokes County and enlisted at Danbury NC on May 119, 1861.
Company G: 195 officers and men. Known as the "Town Fork Invicibles", was raised in Stokes County and enlisted at Germanton NC on May 30, 1861.
Company H: 203 officers and men. Known as the "Mountain Tigers", was raised in Surry County and enlisted at Dobson NC on June 5, 1861.
Company I: 151 officers and men. Known as the "Surry Marksmen", was raised in Surry County and enlisted at Mt. Airy NC, on June 5, 1861.
Company K: 190 officers and men. Known as the "Forsyth Southrons", was raised in Forsyth County and enlisted at Winston NC on June 11, 1861.
Company L: 154 officers and men. Known as the "Rockingham Invincibles", was raised in Rockingham County and enlisted at Wentworth on June 3, 1861.
Company M: 138 officers and men. Known as the "Guilford Dixie Boys", was raised in Guilford County and enlisted on June 4, 1861.
