ATTEMPTING TO INSTALL THE PERMIT MACRO WRITER VERSION 2.4 !!!!!

Please read these procedures.

In general, there are four steps to running the macro:

     1. The first step is to setup the icon.
     2. The second step is to set the macro default directory to
          c:\newpmt\.
     3. The third step is to install the macro files.
     4. The fourth step is to add your user information to the
ENG.DAT file.

Setting up the Icon - This step has not changed since the
previous version. This step is detailed in the operating
instructions

Setting the Default Macro Directory --

You must change your DEFAULT macro directory in WordPerfect
following the directions below:
     a. Open WordPerfect.
     b. Click on Edit/ click on Preferences/ double-click on
File; then check on Macro.
     c. You will see fields to fill-in the default and
supplementary macro directories.
The supplementary macro field will probably be filled
with a sub-directory of
where your wpwin.exe file is located; the default field
will probably be blank. If
both fields are filled with other directories, You
cannot run the macro properly.
     d. In the DEFAULT field, type in c:\newpmt.
NOTE, THIS MUST BE THE >>DEFAULT<< DIRECTORY,
           NOT THE >>SUPPLEMENTAL<< DIRECTORY.
     e. Important: If you need to access macros in another
macro directory, make that Directory the supplementary macro directory.
     f. Click on "OK"
     g. Click on "close"

Congratulations, you have set the default macro directory!

Extracting the macro files -- The file mac24.exe is a 16-bit
(i.e., suitable for Windows or Win95) self-extracting zip file.
Double click on this file in FileManager, or run this file from
the Windows ProgramManager.

When the EXTRACT window appears, make sure the "RECREATE
SUBDIRECTORIES" box
is checked. Set the "EXTRACT TO" box to C:\

Again, THIS IS VERY IMPORTANT, make sure the "RECREATE
SUBDIRECTORIES" box
is checked. Failure to follow this step will dump 3 meg of trash
into your root directory.

Click on "EXTRACT"

The directory c:\newpmt is created, with dozens of files, and a
subdirectory c:\newpmt\docs.
One of those files is this document, c:\newpmt\docs\read1st.txt,
another is the operating instructions, c:\newpmt\docs\ins23.wpd.

Congratulations, you have extracted the files!

Add your user information to the ENG.DAT file.
1. EASY WAY. The first time the new macro is run from a PC, the macro detects that the
version is new, and prompts the user for the required information, building the required
ENG.DAT and copying the VARS.DAT.

2. HARD WAY -- Use a text
editor to open the file ENG.DAT, which is located in the
c:\newpmt directory. The file is
reproduced in its entirety below:

[the number corresponding to variable "writer"]
  8
  [engineer's full name]
  Vincent Jude Tomaino
  [engineer's phone number]
  919-715-6249
EVERYTHING AT OR BELOW THIS LINE IS IGNORED
Writer is a variable that tells the macro writer where the
permit
  is being written.
       Assign this variable at compile-time.
       Use the following Table:
       Asheville Regional Office; 1
       Fayetteville Regional Office; 2
       Mooresville Regional Office; 3
       Raleigh Regional Office; 4
       Washington Regional Office; 5
       Wilmington Regional Office; 6
       Winston-Salem Regional Office; 7
       Central Office; 8

Simply replace the number "8" with the number corresponding to
your regional office,
replace "Vincent Jude Tomaino" with your full name, and type in
your phone number.
Save the file in the text editor, or as ASCII (DOS) text in
WordPerfect.

You are now ready to run the PWM version 2.5!!
