| The following morning, Nick called Howie to see if Jennifer had told him anything. "So did Jen say anything last night?" Nick asked. "Nothing. What about Sarah?" Howie asked. "Some." Nick said. "Tell Jen I want to meet her at the diner at eleven. I want to ask her a few questions." "Not without my supervision." Howie said. "You're not her parent, D. She's a big girl." Nick said. "Yeah, but I know you Nicholas. You don't play nice." he said. "After last night and the look on Sarah's face, I am done playing nice with her family." Nick said. "Eleven o'clock. Be there." "Sure thing." Howie said. "See ya." Nick said hanging up seeing Sarah without waiting to hear bye from Howie. "Morning baby." "Morning." Sarah said kissing him. "Any action yet?" he asked. "Not yet. But you never know." Sarah said. "Hey little man. You giving your mom a hard time?" he asked talking to her stomach. Sarah laughed. "You want any breakfast?" "You aren't cooking for me." Nick said. "I'll bring you back something after I meet with Howie." "Okay." she said. "I think I'll spend time with Leigh and Katie today. Get some action. See some sights." "Just don't wear yourself out." Nick said looking at his watch. 10:45 A.M. it read. "I promise." she said. "See you later then?" Nick asked. "You bet." she said and they shared a kiss. Nick walked out and headed to the diner while Sarah phoned Leighanne. She made plans and went to get ready. Nick arrived at the diner and saw Jennifer sitting in a booth. He walked over and took a seat. "I thought Howie was coming with you?" Nick asked. "He decided not too. So what did you want to see me for?" Jennifer asked. "To talk to you about Sarah and last night." Nick said. Jennifer looked at him. "It's none of your business, Nick. Just stay out of it." "Listen to me. Sarah is pregnant. She doesn't need any emotional stress from you or her parents. The doctor put her on some bed rest because of stress at the diner. So either make up with her and everything will be square or don't come around anymore. Do I make myself clear?" Nick said. "Yeah. Loud and clear." Jennifer said. "I don't want to be mad at her. I just wish her and dad would make up. That's all." "Well from what I hear you blamed her for what he called her. That's totally untrue." Nick said. "You weren't even around for the whole conversation." "You know, she wouldn't be in this mess if it wasn't for her meeting you." Jennifer said calmly. Nick glared at her. "Well at least I took her away from the controlling mess from you and your parents." "I never controlled her." Jennifer said. "Yeah, but you got to date who you wanted and everything while she got bossed around from your parents. You should've stuck up for her." Nick said. "I have!" she yelled. "Just stay out of it, Nick! You don't know what you're talking about!" "Listen to me! I don't want you around Sarah unless you are going to apologize for what you did!" Nick yelled. Jennifer stood up and headed out. Nick grabbed her arm. "Understand?!" he asked angrily. "Yes!" Jennifer screamed in his face. Nick let her go. "Good." Jennifer left and he went to the counter to order Sarah some food. He could only wonder if they would ever make up. "This is cute." Leighanne said showing a little sports outfit. "I love that. Nick would love to see his son in that." Sarah said happily. "Do you think you can finally be happy after the baby comes?" Leigh asked. "I am happy." Sarah said picking out another outfit. "Are you truly happy?" Leigh asked showing her some strollers. "Not with my parents fighting with me and all. I just wish my sister would say she was wrong for last night." Sarah said picking out a stroller. "Well give her some time and everything will work out." Leighanne said. "You sound like Nick." she said. "Now that's scary." Leigh said and both of them laughed as they continued to shop. Sarah and Leighanne carried the bags into the house. Sarah saw Nick eating a sandwich in the kitchen. "Hey Nick. We can use some help." Leighanne said. "Stuff is out in the trunk." Nick immediately got up and took the bags from Sarah. "How was your morning?" "Good. Yours?" Sarah asked. "It was okay." Nick said heading to the car after pecking her cheek with a kiss. Sarah knew something was eating at him and went out onto the porch. "Nicholas what happened?" "What makes you think something happened?" Nick asked putting the car seat and stroller inside the door. "Because you got that angry look in your eye." Sarah said. Nick sighed sitting down in a chair on the porch. "I talked to Jennifer. We got into a heated argument." "You talked to Jen? What for?" she asked walking over. "I told her to apologize or don't come around." he said. "You can't make us reconcile that way." she said. "It will happen. Just be patient." "I just want you happy." he said standing up. "I am." Sarah said. "I truly am happy." He kissed her as Leighanne watched. "Awe. How romantic." Jennifer pulled into the driveway and saw Leigh, Sarah, and Nick standing out on the porch. She parked and got out. "Hey guys." Jen said walking up to them. "Hi." Nick said. "Look. I'm sorry about earlier." Jennifer said to Nick. "Can I talk to Sarah alone for a minute?" "Sure." Nick said. "Just behave yourselves." "Don't worry. We will." Sarah said. Leighanne and Nick left the two girls alone. Jennifer looked at her. "So what do you want?" Sarah asked sitting down. "I'm sorry about last night. I shouldn't have sidedc with the dad thing. I know he's been trying to run our lives since we were kids, but that gives him no reason to call you what he did. I didn't mean to call you that one myself either." Jennifer said with tears wanting to fall. "I want to stop all this fighting. I want to be in my nephew's life." "I forgive you for believing stupid stuff like daddy's." Sarah said. "All is forgiven." "Really?" Jennifer asked. "Really." Sarah said. "Now since we've forgiven each other would you to know what I was gonna tell everyone last night?" "Sure." Jennifer said kneeling in front of her. "Well, Nick asked me to marry him." Sarah said showing her the ring. "OH MY GOD!" Jennifer shrieked. She hugged her sister tightly. "We have a wedding to plan." "I know. But I think I am gonna wait until after the baby is born. I wanna fit into my dress right." Sarah said smiling. "I can't believe it. You have to tell mom and dad." Jennifer said. "I know, but we're not speaking. How can you do that?" Sarah asked. "You leave it to me." Jennifer said. "We have to celebrate." "I'll talk to Nick and invite everyone over." she said. "Cool." Jennifer said. "I'll get the food from the store and we can have a big cookout." Sarah agreed. The two walked into the house smiling. Nick saw them from the kitchen. "Well I see you two are happy. You make up?" Nick asked. "Yeah. We are going to have a party to celebrate the good news of you and Sarah." Jennifer said. "What good news?" Leighanne asked curiously. Sarah showed Leigh her finger since she was already there. Leighanne shrieked with happiness. "Congratulations." Leighanne said hugging the both of them. "Thanks." Sarah and Nick said in unison. "So when is the big day?" Leighanne asked. "We have to start planning." "I was thinking after the baby was born, but Nick and I will let you know later." Sarah said. "Now let's start planning the party." Jennifer, Leighanne, and Sarah started planning the party they were holding for Friday evening. They had all the details worked out by that evening. Sarah was writing as Nick came to bed and slipped in beside her. "This is going to be a good party." Sarah said. "Yeah it will be." Nick said. "I just can't wait to get you to say 'I do." "Me either." Sarah said putting her notepad down and kissing him. "Goodnight." "Good night." Nick said. They turned off their lamps and went to sleep. |
