Theme/Mood:
When you imagine the World of Darkness version of Denver, think near Cyberpunk. The City is larger, more looming (the buildings seem closer together), the suburbs dont quite extend as much as they do, and urban sprawl does not include the Mountains. People in the World of Darkness do not spend as much time hiking or doing out door activities. They dont go out as much at night, and only a desperate fool would walk alone (and those that do often are packing heat). People almost never look each other in the eye, Denverites are more extreme in this regard than most, especially the locals. People almost never say, Hi, in fact you are lucky to get a grunt in response if you offered a greeting. People travel to work, they dress like drones in their corporate jobs, and they try not to rock the boat (job security is brandished like a club to keep employees in line). Traffic is worse, and construction on the roads is constant, and yet most roads are riddled with potholes. Driving anywhere during rush hour will often take an additional hour. The architecture is more gothic, there are several buildings that have been restored preserving the traditional Wild West style (The Brown Palace is a good example). The cold and high tech skyscrapers surround these buildings, downtown shuts down after midnight, but before then it is bright with artificial neon light.
The weather is more extreme, and it can change often, it can be blowing winds and snowy in October, and the very next day it will be 70 degrees. Fog is becoming more common in the spring and fall, so is rain. Denver is a hub for a lot of travelers, these are the mostly likely individuals to disappear into the night, they are more likely to go explore that lone country road, or walk down that dark alley.
Also people are very cynical, numb and do not trust anything. They do not believe that the supernatural is possible and will find rational explanations for most things, they will also not get involved, or try to help a stranger out. An attitude of, Better you, than me runs rampant. People are subconsciously superstitious, and would never admit it to their peers. Homeless are ignored, deviants are looked down upon, and also ignored in most situations. A body could lie bleeding in an alley for hours before Police were notified, and even then it would be anonymous.
There are far more SUVs on the streets. The difference between rich and poor are more extreme. Neighborhoods are more isolated; you can get into a lot of trouble for being the wrong ethnicity in certain parts of town. Nightclubs are also more extreme, while there are the trendy sports bars in the World of Darkness; there are also more Goth Clubs and trendy hangouts. Strip joints are seedier, and Fetish Clubs are more common. These are places for the young. Most people go to their dreary jobs, spend hours in traffic, go home, drink a few Coors, eat a microwave dinner, and watch Qwest TV (Omni TV), just to get up and do it again the next day.
Animals prowl the night streets, from Bears, Foxes, Coyotes, Raccoons and Mountain Lions in the suburbs to packs of wild dogs in downtown. There are no alligators in the sewers, and only children and social outcasts believe there are tunnels under the city streets.
If you are not currently a member of the Camarilla, you are welcome to attend, play the games and see if you are interested in becoming a member of the game. You must be at least eighteen years old to attend. The Camarilla website is http://www.white-wolf.com/camarilla/ Please contact us prior to coming to game so that we can help you with character creation and the rules modifications that we use in the Camarilla.
Players are highly recommended to be familiar with the White Wolfs Live Action Role Playing (LARP) rules and venue before attending game, if you have any questions please contact us and we would be glad to assist you. The game we run is very mature, we touch on dark themes that may make you uncomfortable. If you as a player are ever uncomfortable with the scene being run, you are welcome to step away, there will be no consequences to your character for doing so.
Please read the Venue Style sheets specific to each Venue being offered.
Flavor/Influence:
This Domain will run games concurrent with the World of Darkness setting, there are several things in the World of Darkness version of Denver that differ from the real world. For example in the real world you can buy a shotgun at K-Mart, however in the World of Darkness gun control laws have made it much more difficult to obtain firearms (despite the best efforts of Herculean Firearms Incorporated- see MET Book of the Wyrm).
Weapons and availability in Denver: Quoting from, Prime 5.1 AVAILABILITY (5.4)
Melee Weapons, Throwing Weapons (except Grenades), all Missile Weapons, Antique Armors and Shields (see above) are available without the use of Influence (just cash). Pistols, Heavy Pistols, Rifles and Shotguns are available without the expenditure of Influence, but this requires that the weapon be registered (going through background checks, waiting periods, etc. as appropriate to the state).
*This means that you must have a valid and clean ID, generally this will require Bureaucracy, although some backgrounds will allow it, without Bureaucracy Influence.
The largest distributor of Firearms in Colorado is Wild Bill Surplus and Trading Post, the front company for Herculean Firearms Incorporated, but even they have to follow state laws. All residents of Denver would know that Wild Bills is the place to get Firearms (just as Ranger Joes is household name in Georgia). Generally when a player acquires Firearms via Street Influence they have a special relationship with on of the many pawnshops in the Denver area (although other means are acceptable, such as gangs and what not, but that comes with its own dangers). Wild Bills puts on many gun shows in the Denver area, but these are well monitored by federal agents and Police, and they are almost always run during the day.
There are several other major companies in the Denver area that only exist in the World of Darkness, the ST Staff will continue to create more to add to this list. If a player uses Finance influence to create an IC business, please inform the DST so that your company can be added to this list. The DST and ADST Influences will need to know what the Better Business Bureau would know as well as whether or not stock in the company is made public, this will add the flavor of the game as well as the Influence game.
(The list of businesses will change and grow on a regular basis and it will be provided on both the ST Portion of the web site with its affiliation, as well as on the player side of the web site, with descriptive details about the business only. This will be added to the website only, not to the Domain Venue Style Sheet submission.)
Influence System Modifications for Denver:
Character restrictions:
If a particular type of character becomes too populous (as determined by the Venue Lead), then that concept will become restricted, and unofficially made DST Approval, until a local census shows greater balance in diversity. Concepts, which already require DST Approval (Giovanni, Red Talens, Sidhe, etc), will have a lower acceptable population.
(i.e. If there were an average of fifty active Cam/Anarch players, the STs may put a restriction of 10 PCs of a common Clan, such as Toreador, but a restriction of 2 or 3 of an uncommon Clan, such as Ravnos)
Type refers to Clan, Kith, Tradition, or Auspice (but not Breed or Tribe).
Please note that these concepts will not be officially restricted from play, but they will be given greater scrutiny before approvals are granted.
Proxy rules:
Proxies are handled as defined in Prime Chapter 1.3 of the current Camarilla Rules Supplement. Proxies that will not result in challenges do not require a character sheet to be sent.
Travel risks:
Weather IC (in game) may differ from the real world weather, and cause
difficulties. Travelling over major high ways, taking the train or plane is
all fairly standard and safe. However back roads, Umbral travel, or
shipping oneself UPS could result in a messy situation, please consult a
Storyteller if your method of travel is non-standard.
Challenges:
As per current Camarilla supplement.
Domain Policies:
Challenges:
Please become familiar with the Challenge Rules listed in Prime
Chapter 3.1 of the Camarilla 5.1 Rules Supplement. The only other addition
to that, is that initiative (when necessary) is determined by highest
trait going first (as with bidding you can choose to declare less than your
max, and only base traits apply), instead of the oft used House Rule of;
Mental/Social/Physical. Example: If the Tzimisce is attacking our Brujah
Primogen, the Toreador decides to use Dread Gaze, and the Brujah also
wishes to physically attack the Tzimisce, all involved declare their
initiative. For the Tzimisce and the Brujah, their initiative would be
their base Physical traits; the Toreadors initiative is his base Social
traits. If either the Tzimisce or the Brujah have higher base physical
traits than the Toreadors total social traits, then they will resolve
their Everyman action, before the Toreadors social challenge.
MID Approval Requests:
No character that requires Mid Approval will be
approved if submitted on the same day that the player would like to play
the character.
Experience:
Less xp (up to 0) can be awarded as a penalty for disruptive behavior, such as OOC discussions, or arguing with a ST or Narrator. This is at the discretion of the Lead ST for the game.
Willpower:
No challenge may be initiated once all temporary Willpower is spent
(including attempts to resist/control frenzy). One can still defend against
challenges initiated against them.
Other:
There are several Email lists that will help players get more out of the
local games:
[email protected] this is an Out of Character List for game announcements and communication. Please see the specific Venue lead for Email lists specific to that Venue.
Rulesets:
The priority of Rules Sets are as follows: The WW LARP Books Sanctioned by the Camarilla
> The Camarilla 5.1 Rules Set > Regional Policies > Domian
Venue Style Sheet > Venue Style Sheet > Venue ST on the scene at hand.
Thusly I would also advise becoming familiar with the Specific Venue Style Sheets and the Regional Policies; your Chapter Storyteller can assist you with this.
