Kind of as a side note to the main discussion, I wanted to bring to forum an issue that's been chapping my hide to get other's impressions on it and to make sure I am not misperceiving things... its something that's come up again and again, more prevailently than I'd like, and I want to make sure I am not off base here. What is the deal with characters claiming Praxis over areas that do not have chapters? Example: Billy Brujah claims Praxis over a county outside of his CSTs storytelling jurisdiction. Sure, no one else is out there, but should Billy gain the benefits of status and in character prestige when there are no characters out there for Billy to hold domain over? My thoughts on it are not only 'no', but also that other characters should make fun of Billy for the obviously suicidal mistake he's made in making a mockery of the Camarilla and its Laws. I'm seeing 'Imperial Princedoms' being consisted of a single domain and surrounding, otherwise PC uninhabited counties as well. I think that's silly. While I realize that the location of chapters in correlation with the location of domains may be an OOC construct that affects the IC settings for the game, I'm very uncomfortable with the thought that where there is no chapter, characters feel able to claim Praxis over those areas, gaining full status benefit for Princedom, but are not struck with the consequences of portraying a Prince (the most obvious consequence that comes to mind: having PCs to possibly contradict that Praxis). I totally support and encourage characters to carve out domains of their own, but in cases where there are not PCs living in that area, I do not think those domain holders should claim Princely status unless there are PCs there for him to rule over; likewise, I don't think a Prince should claim 'Imperial Princedom' when he holds domains outside of the city where no PCs inhabit. It would be like my Malkavian character, D'avnallius, claiming Praxis of the counties north of St. Louis, and using that Princely status even though there are no PCs living there; no challenge to the Praxis unless PCs go there; no risk in gaining the power, next to no risk in maintaining that power. Suppose then that D'avnallius decided to claim all of the counties between north St. Louis and south Terre Haute, stretching across a good portion of the state of Illinois, and become an Imperial Prince. Guess what? There are no chapters out there... thus, no PCs out there, so the only reprucussions that my character may or may not have is from the characters in St. Louis or the characters in Terre Haute, or any other characters who won't tolerate this silliness. But should my character claim Princely status and expect to be treated as an Imperial Prince for this accomplishment? My thoughts are no. I'd like to see some strong logic counter to that sentiment, since it seems to be something that many characters are doing and getting away with... like I said, I want to be sure I'm not misperceiving things. Thank you, J. 6/15/00 - ANST Report - STCircle Clarification on Imperial Domains over areas without Camarilla Chapters. I encouraged STs not to make up background for 'undeveloped' geographic areas which could potentially yield future chapters who may want to have the opportunity to make up their own background history over the background history being written by STs in other chapters. 8/15/00 - ANST Report - STCircle Regarding Princely Domains and status I encourage players with their characters to role play the distinction between Personal Domains and Princely Domains, as to when a Kindred claims a track of land for himself, and what status/power he can wield as a result.
