| Notes on "Postcard from San Juan" This story presented the fun and challenge of setting a story in a real place. It is a place I've been to, and, like Mike, love its aura of history. (But, no, the rest is fiction. Considering such activity in a darkened spot in S.J. away from the crowds would be like considering a midnight romp in an obscure part of Central Park. Proceed with caution.) From a narrative standpoint, the fun was playing with the extended sexual metaphor of fort/virginity, canon/phallus. It is the most straightforward narrative of my stories to date. More a bit of frivolity and romance than erotic tale. NCM Jan. '01
