Writers Workshop
Writers Workshop is a block of time during our day where the children learn important writing skills while writing and drawing about topics they care about.
Students write about real experiences from their lives and later in the year will be given the opportunity to revise and publish some of their pieces.  They are encouraged to work and think just as real authors do!
A Day in the Life of First Grade Writers Workshop!
2.  Next, students "pair-share" about
the mini-lesson or about what they
are planning to write about.
1. First I teach a quick mini-lesson
on an important writing skill.
3.  Students then get out their writing materials baskets and
date-stamp their new piece.
4.  We first think of an experience
that has meaning to us.
5.  Next we draw our experience.
6.  Then we write and go back to
add more details.
8.  At the end of writing time, several
students share their work in the author's chair and tell us how they used the mini-lesson to make their writing better.  We give our fellow authors ideas and compliments.
7.  We help each other stretch out words and think of more details.
