Course Descriptions
French One: This is a beginning French course designed to develope  four language skills: reading, writing, speaking, and oral comprehension. These skills will be developed through activities and exercises that will require your active participation. Many activities will be presented in cultural context, thus you will learn about the francophone world while acquiring necessary skills for communication. You will develop your basic vocabulary and become familiar with conjugating regular and irregular present tense verbs. You will learn to express near future action. You will be able to phrase simple questions  and give information about yourself and your likes and dislikes. You will be able to count to 100+. You will be able to make negative statements. You will begin to develope correct pronunciation skills
French Two: This course continues basic development of the four language skills; reading, speaking,writing, comprehension. with an emphasis on vocabulary development. You will learn more complex grammatical structures including verb conjugation in the past tense (perfect and imperfect) as well as future and conditional constructions. Activities will reinforce skills in a cultural context, and will require active participation to suceed. Increased emphasis will be placed on correct pronunciation and you will be exposed to a variety of reading materials to increase vocabulary in a broad sense.
French Three: This course is designed to consolidate what you have learned in the previous two semesters and to develope you ability to use more complex verb forms to express precisely what you want to communicate. You will perfect you pronunciation through frequent oral presentations (les exposes orales) including skits. Your vocabulary will become more developed enabling you to communicate with increasing ease. At this stage, production of the language becomes more important and you will be encouraged to actively participate in classroom discussions.

French Four: In this course you will read  and discuss a variety of historical and litterature extracts leading to a greater appreciation for French history and litterature. You will make oral presentations and use increasingly complex verb structures to more precicely communicate your ideas. A focus is on reading and presenting in the target language.
French Five: This is the terminal course in French leading to the AP exam in some cases if you elect to follow that direction. A variety of cultural and litterature readings to deepen understanding of French Culture as well as a complete revision of grammar will be undertaken. The focus is on reading, writing, speaking, and listening. This will probably be a combined class, so you will need to be an excellent independent worker with strong academic skills.
