Paul's Place Project!
The Artblock class was investigating the role of the individual in the community and became interested in an important part of Rocky Point histoy- Paul's Place.  In our rural area, Paul's is an influence on local economy, a keeper of local history and lore, plus a gathering place for people of all ages.    Paul's Place acrylic by Katie.

Mr. Paul is the owner of the Original Paul's Place.  On our field trip, he generously let us interview him, the customers and employees, take photographs and look through albums of local Paul's Place history.  We sampled the food- hotdogs, milkshakes, 'real' fries, pickled artichokes and the famous relish.

We thank Mr. Paul for his support of this project, our program and our school.
Patriotic Paul's Place   pencil by Matt

?The famous relish was invented during the WWII era in response to the rationing of beef.  Matt's artwork includes images of the relish, ground troops, General Patton and the battleship North Carolina.  Matt's interest was in how everything was influenced by the war, and how the relish was a creative and tasty solution to war time shortages.

Paul's is much more than a resturant- it is a meeting place for locals of all ages, a place where stories are shared and histories are remembered.  Visit Paul's today for a taste of local history!
