Art I |
Course Description: Art I is a foundation level course. This course provides the oppertunity to explore different media/mediums while learning the basic principles and elements of art. A strong foundation core includes the basics of art criticism, analysis, aesthetics and history. Critical and creative thought will be developed through creative application of technical skill to studio prompts. Art I meets the requirements of the North Carolina Standard Course of Study for Art I. |
Unit V: Form NCSCS Goal 5: connecting to art and culture. Element of Art: form: 3D Context: Begining sculptural techniques exploring constructive form. Content: Archetypes of mythological creatures; history of mythological creatures as basis for sculptural art. Resources: Textbook chapter 5, Video Gargoyles, Guardians at the Gate Studio Prompt: Create an active sculpture of an archetype of mythological creature. Materials: planning: drawing paper, rulers, pencils Construction: newspaper, masking tape, plaster gauze, found objects, paint. Process: 1. Planning: character sheet planning creature according to archetype. 2. Turn-around drawing showing multiple views. 3. Armature construction with newspaper. 4. Form construction with newspaper and tape. 5. Surface construction with plaster gauze. 6. Surface treatment/ embellishment with paint and details. Assessment: Participation Studio: completion/ following directions. Written: Descriptive paragraph on Gargoyles. |
