Course Description: Students enrolled in this course have either successfully completed the level I course at the high school or the middle school or have placed out of level I due to previous language study at the elementary and/or middle grades. This course provides students with opportunities to continue the development of their listening, speaking, reading, and writing skills. Students participate in simple conversational situations by combining and recombining learned elements of the language orally and in writing. They are able to satisfy basic survival needs and interact on issues of everyday life in the present time and past time inside and outside of the classroom setting. They compose related sentences which narrate, describe, compare, summarize familiar topics from the target culture. Focus is placed on understanding main ideas. They develop a better understanding of the similarities and differences between cultures and languages and they examine the influence of the beliefs and values on the target culture(s). Missed assignments can be found in your mailbox. All work missed is expected to be made up in a timely manner. To ensure this, there is a time limit for missed work. The limit is as follows: Homework- 2 school days from day of absence. Quizzes or Tests- 5 school days from day of absence. These time limits are beneficial to students as the material missed is fresh and more easily recalled than after nine weeks. Grading Scale: A= 93-100 B= 85-92 C= 78-84 D= 70-77 F= 69 and below Final Grade: As set by the school, each 9-week grade will count 37.5% whereas the final exam counts 25%. Grade Distribution: 15% Progress Report / Classwork / Binder Checks 15% Homework / Vocabulary 20% Quizzes / Bellwork 25% Chapter / Unit Tests 25% Individual / Group Projects Late Assignments: Late assignments will NOT be accepted! Remember, if you were absent, you have 2 days to make-up homework and 5 to make-up quizzes or tests. Notes: Progress Reports: Reports will be sent home once every two weeks and are expected to be signed by a parent/guardian and returned to the teacher promptly. Binder Checks: Students are expected to maintain all work, past, present and future in a binder that will be checked regularly. Bellwork/Tocatimbre: Students are asked to complete a warm-up activity in Spanish everyday. Students are to maintain these activities for the length of a week at which time they are collected by the teacher and given a grade. Projects: Projects vary by class and chapter. Students will be informed of projects and due dates in class. |
