| Claxton's Accelerated Reader program is terrific! It has been growing since the early 1980's, and it's the largest in the Asheville City Schools. There are over 4000 titles for students to choose from. There are 20 or more Spanish quizzes for Spanish books located in the media center. Participation in the AR program is voluntary for students in grades 1-5, although most of Claxton's students choose to take part. There are ongoing rewards available, and also special Reading Challenges several times throughout the school year.
