Physical Awareness and Fitness Club
Encouraging students to build lifelong healthy lifestyles through physical activity
The Physical Awareness and Fitness Club will meet every Thursday from 3:30-4:30 in
Ms. Bost's 5th grade classroom.  The club will operate based on the programs and awards established by the President's Council on Physical Fitness and Sports (PCPFS).  Detailed information can be found at http://www.indiana.edu/-preschal/index.html
Dress
Students are encouraged to wear appropriate clothing for fitness club.  While the school dress code will continue to be enforced, students should wear clothes that are comfortable, flexible and cool; tennis shoes are a must.  We'll be doing a fair share of sweating so be sure to bring a water bottle.  There is no problem if students need to change clothes after school (I'll be doing the same thing!)
Activities
Once per month we will be measuring fitness and health levels based on the council's standards.  Other weeks' activities will include a variety of instruction and participation on a wide range of physical activities.  A few examples include stretching techniques, aerobic workouts, tae-bo, yoga, strength training, and self-defense.
Personal Statement and Vision Statement
My desire to start a fitness club centers around various experiences.  Growing up, I thought the only way to be active was to be great at sports; this attitude lead me to personal disappoinment and far too many injuries.  My current goal is to promote safe and appropriate physical fitness and healthy lifestyles without the intimidation of competition.  While at Meredith College, I worked as a personal trainer and took various recreational and nutritional classes. Also I finally learned how to swim at 22 and began taking my personal fitness very seriously.  At the height of my fitness experience last year (following a hip operation), I was in a motorcycle accident that crushed three vertebrae.  So again, I feel as though I'm starting over (with the permission of my doctors:-) and I see the fitness club as a way to encourage myself and others to reach for new and appropriate fitness and health goals.
