Monday afternoon when we got to Rock Eagle, we had a prepared lunch to eat.  We had tacos, nachos, refried beans, and rice.
Our first class was Lake Ecology, were we talked about lake ecosystems and the parts of a lake.  A lake can be formed by glaciers, volcanoes, earthquakes, and by man.  Glaciers for lakes when some ice makes a hole in the earth and over time it melts.  Earthquakes make lakes when the earth's plates (convergent and divergent) shift and create depressions in the surface.  Volcanoes form lakes after they erupt and all of the lava has escaped.  Water flows through the cracks and channels forming a lake.
Input sources of a lake are run-off, precepitation, streams, and ground water.  Outputs of a lake are infiltration, evaporation, streams, and usage.  An ecosystem is made up by biotic and abiotic things which means living and nonliving things working together in an area.  Some biotic things are: plants, animals, weeds, fish, birds, and algae.  Some abiotic things are rocks, water, air, wind, and sunlight.  Both abiotic and biotic things make up dirt.
While we were looking in Rock Eagle lake for organisms with hand nets, Lauren caught a baby catfish.  Other people also found misquito fish, minnows, bugs, and other things.  After we got done in the lake, we got to see turtles and fish in a little lab.  One was a Yellow Bellied Pond Slider which is common in Rock Eagle Lake.
