The Spring, 2003 ACT class decided to continue the tutoring project at Ann Street Methodist Church' s New Hope Mission afterschool program.  Fourteen students tutored for a minimum of 4.5 hours each.  On Monday, March 2, 2003, the ACT students celebrated Dr. Seuss' birthday with the children at Ann Street.  They shared the reading of Green Eggs and Ham and One Fish, Two Fish, Red Fish, Blue Fish.  They played Twister and enjoyed cake, juice and chips.  Thank you Mr. Meehan of University Harris Teeter for the cake!
The Fall, 2002 ACT class of 18 students conducted a park and campus clean up during the first quarter.

The second quarter project provided assistance to a tutoring program at Ann Street Methodist Church, Concord known as New Hope Mission.  The students assisted elementary children with homework three afternoons per week and helped with a Christmas pageant production.  The students also collected toiletry items (shampoo, deodorant, toothpaste, toothbrushes, towels and washcloths) for Christmas boxes for the children's families.

During the Fall of 2001, 76 ACT students chose to conduct projects entitled "Special Cases" and "Happy Homes."

"Special Cases" was a drive to provide suitcases/duffel bags, clothing and toiletry items for children in foster care.  The drive was so successful that items were donated not only to Cabarrus County Social Services but also to Lutheran Family Services in Charlotte, which also sponsors a number of group homes.

"Happy Homes" provided the students with the opportunity to meet senior citizens and provide assistance in the areas of yard cleanup, Christmas decoration and flower garden preparation.  These services were provided at the homes of identified individuals in the community.  The students also visited and caroled at Eden Gardens, Carillon and Avante.

In the Spring of 2002, 59 ACT students conducted:

"Seuss is on the Loose" netted over 3500 books, predominantly children and young adult literature.  The books were donated to a variety of organizations including:  Cabarrus County Kids Plus, the Methodist Home, Lambert's Daycare, Harrisburg Presbyterian Child Development Center, Lutheran Family Services, Plaza Place, A Child's Place, a Cabarrus County group home, Cooperative Christian Ministry and Stonewall Jackson School.

The students also planned and conducted a celebration of Dr. Seuss's birthday, March 2nd, at the Harrisburg Public Library.  Activities included puppet shows and reading books.

Northeast Medical Center's Pediatric Unit benefitted during the last quarter of the Spring classes.  The students collected and delivered various toys, kits and goody bags for the young patients.
