The Civil War

The Civil War created more bloodshed and loss of human life than any other engagement the U.S. would ever fight.  It also saw the division of it’s Union and placed brother against brother. It put to test the strength of the Federal government in a struggle to free an entire race of humans.  The Civil War has a significant place in the shaping of American history.

Your assignment is to find the significance that our state, North Carolina, played out in this, even taking a closer look at what happened in our own backyard of Asheville.  It is important to keep the Who, What, Where, When, and Why’s in mind as you are choosing your project and doing your preliminary research.  The paper will need to be at least four pages in length, double spaced.  You should include a title page and bibliography.  Your all of your work should be cited using the Chicago style footnote format, with a minimum of three sources.  A presentation will accompany your paper and a visual aid will be required.  Be creative in this, as a standard poster board or timeline will not do the job.
