Overview of topics
Reading-
We have concluded our poetry unit and are now moving on to some EOG review. We will be talking about all the important EOG vocabulary as well as major concepts such as main idea, context clues, cause and effect, fact and opinion, inferences, and reading for detail. The students will be keeping notes and games inside of their EOG review book that they made in class.  Along with studying, we'll find time to do some fun bubble races (it really is faster to bubble from the inside out instead of the outside in!).
Social Studies-
We are currently studying WWII, the Great Depression, and the Cold War. Along with some exciting information, and new ways to fight wars, we will also be talking about the civil rights movement. We will be learning about influential people such as MLK Jr., Malcolm X, and Rosa Parks. The students are excited to be learning about history that some of their own family participated in and are eager to reenact the march from Selma to Birmingham.
Science-
The students are reviewing for the Science EOG by going over the major four concepts they studied this year. These include landforms, weather, plants/animals, and force/motion. They have a study packet containing all the important information that they should be reviewing each nig\ht.
A few things that we will do regularly include-
Caught Ya (correcting sentences that come together to make one exciting story about the kids)
Readers Workshop (I will meet with students individually and discuss their independent reading with them- we will go over vocab they are struggling with, help pace them to finish books and discuss individual AR goals)
Upcoming Events!
February 4- Walker Center trip to see The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe.
February 16- No school for students.
