Ms. Hensley's Blog
A place to share ideas and thoughts about our science and social studies class.
Entry for November 7, 2006
Hi class.  I thought it'd be fun to start a blog for our class on our webpage.  You can access the blog and type your thoughts for class each day.  I will offer 10 points extra credit for posts that reflect on our lessons.  This will also be a great way for us to communicate.

I thought it was really cool how good our crystals grew for the crystal growing experiment. It was cool that when they did get oxygen they grew all the way up and when the tops were left on, they didn't grow at all. I learned something new today about the crystal growing experiment!

It'll only count once:) Go to links and it's the last one listed under science news and games, I think. Once on that site go to the die at the top of the screen and Slime Volleyball is the first choice you have. Enjoy but I warn you, the hardest level isn't easy:)

Ms.Hensley what does a dust bowl look like?
Does it look any thing like a tornado?
Can it kill easy
--Chris Willams
2006-12-06 22:38:28 GMT

The dust bowl was caused by overplowing the ground and losing all ground cover such as grass and weeds. With nothing to hold down the soil and a huge drought over the area the ground dried up and blew around with the wind.
The dust bowl was just what they referred to the area of the midwest during this period. A dust storm is kind of like in The Mummy when that big sandstorm is blowing up. The sky turns dark with the large amount of dust and the wind kicks up and blows dust everywhere. Attics would often fill with dust until they collapsed. There can be dust devils which is like a tornado but a swirl of dust. The amount of dust did lead people to smother to death and caused dust pneumonia which did kill easily. Often people would lose their way in the dust storms and would die from breathing too much dust.

Yes the Mayas were extremely advanced. They developed an extremely accurate calendar and they had a great system of heiroglypics. The Incas were great conquerors and built many roads.

Mrs.Hensley i can't wait to do the crime scene investagation. I also can't wait for the blood spaltter scene ethier. I think it is going to be so much fun. You'r class is diffently my favorite. I have to start working harder though and turning in my assignments. Why would someone want to sell Belgaim on Ebay? I wonder what would happen if someone bidded high enough on it would they sell it? Then where would the people that live there go? I don't know. well i can't wait to see all the crime scene investagation. See you in class.
