Did you ever wonder how penguins stay warm?
Here's a simple experiment you can do with your child at home.
Take a zip-loc bag and put some shortening in it. Now, take another zip-loc bag and turn inside out. Zip the two bags closed. Squish the shortening around. Your child can then place his or her hand in the bag and put both hands in ice water. Which hand stays warmer?
(The insulation of the "fat" helps to protect the hand from the cold. Just like the penguins and other animals that live in the Polar regions of our world!)
