My Thoughts on Teaching and Learning
I believe that learning  should be hands-on and that students should be active learners.   Any age or  grade can be shown demonstrations or have simple projects that students can  do to illustrate what they are learning and to help them remember concepts  easier and faster.  A student will more likely remember and understand the  concept of centripetal force if they perform an experiment where they swing  a bucket of water around and see that they are not getting wet even when the  bucket is upside down in the air above their heads.  Also, some of their  learning, projects, class activities, etc. should not just be done and then  eventually thrown away at the end of the year.  They should do some  activities that don't just affect themselves and ones that will probably  last a long time.  Students should also be challenged in the classroom by  the material they are learning.  Spending too much time on adding and  subtracting single digit numbers like two plus three equals five even after  the kids have mastered the skill will bore the students to the point where  they will no longer do their work.
My Plans and Goals for
Teaching and Learning
After graduation, I plan on returning home to Nash County and getting a teaching job in my home system, Nash-Rocky Mt. Schools.  My ideal goal would be to get a teaching job at the elementary school that I attended, Middlesex Elementary.  Sometime soon after graduation (at the most 2 years), I plan on going back and getting my Masters in Education.  Eventually I would also like to get my National Board Certification.
