The first thing I ever dissected was a turle. I was a high school fresman at the time and I was taking Biology. The course was too short to allow us to dissect stuff in class, but the teacher was cool and let me experiment after school. One weekend, my brother and I had been fishing at a pond near our house and we discovered a dead turtle. So I bring the thing home with me and stick it into the freezer. I asked my bio teacher and she agrees to let me dissect it after school. So, at first, we wern't sure how to get the shell off, but we discovered that because the turtle was so small, about the size of an adult's fist, we could cut it with the scissors. After spending a half hour freeing it from it's shell, I got my first look inside. The thing smelled pretty bad due to the decomposition, and was water logged from the pond, but I was entrigued none the less. |
