| Scott and Trent have arrived! |
| The boys arrived June 16, 2008 seven weeks premature. Scott weighed 4 lbs, 7 oz and was 17 1/2 inches long and Trent weighed 4 lbs, 1 oz and was 17 1/4 inches long. They both had lung problems at first. Scott is doing well now. Trent's struggle has gotten worse. He is on a respirator, feeding tube and IV antibiotics and fluids. Please pray for him. We believe he will be fine but it will take time. Nancy Scott - June 16 Trent - June 17 Update June 26 - The babies are 10 days old and still in the hospital. Trent is off the respirator. He is still being fed through a feeding tube. Scott was being fed through a bottle last week but then started getting too tired to finish it so they are feeding him through a tube now also. He also started having problems maintaining his body temperature. Their weights, of course, dropped since birth. Trent 's weight dropped to 3 lbs, 12 oz (at birth was 4 lbs, 1 oz) and Scott's dropped to 4 lbs, 3 oz (at birth was 4 lbs, 7 oz). As of yesterday, they have gained again. Trent weighs 3 lbs, 14.8 oz and Scott weighs 4 lbs, 6.7 oz. As the tubes have come off their faces and they are a little older, it is clear they look like their daddy. Kathryn and Jason are able to hold them in the nursery when they go to visit. Beth, because of her age, still has not gotten to go into the nursery and can only see them through a window. She looks forward to the day they come home and she can see them up close and touch them. Update July 14 - The babies will be 4 weeks old tomorrow. Last week was pretty stressful as we found out Wednesday night that Scott needed a blood transfusion. They could not locate compatible blood for him until Saturday morning! He is doing well now. However, Saturday afternoon they found that Trent needed a transfusion. They are not the same blood types. It did not take but 10 hours to locate blood for Trent because he is a more common type. Trent is still having a little problem with oxygen. He has trouble eating and breathing at the same time. Sometimes he will also stop breathing briefly when he is not eating. Scott stops breathing briefly when he is sleeping (apnea). Scott also has a problem with reflux. When he drinks his bottle, sometimes he throws up and sometimes some formula gets stuck in his throat. Even when they come home they will be on monitors that will alert us when he stops breathing so we can fix what the problem is. They are growing well and are both at least 5 1/2 pounds. Kathryn has been staying at the hospital and feeding them every 3 hours and has learned what to do for them when their monitors go off. She has also been taught infant CPR. The babies may come home soon. |
