How did the Church of Freethought begin?

The Northern California Church of Freethought was born into existence in the minds of Michael and Jean Rice. As the parents of 3 children, Michael and Jean were seeking an Atheist Parenting group when they stumbled onto the North Texas Church of Freethought's website. With a lack of Atheist organizations in the San Francisco North Bay the Rices decided to form the Northern California Church of Freethought, to be affiliated with the North Texas Church of Freethought...

The first Church of Freethought was founded in Texas in 1996 by two couples and a few dozen members of an existing freethought group. The purpose of this Atheistic Church was to fill a social void in the lives of Atheists, Agnostics, Secular Humanists and Freethinkers. Many members are former Christians who miss the social activities and community of a church. Other members are lifelong Atheists who grew up watching their friends and neighbors fill their lives with the activities and fulfillment a church provides. Still others simply need a forum where they can discuss their beliefs without an ensuing battle and have their children play with children with similar beliefs.

The North Texas Church of Freethought is planning to break ground for the first PHYSICAL Freethought Church in the world, possibly in the next couple of years. The North Texas Church of Freethought and has grown to have hundreds of members. For more Information, see North Texas Church of Freethought.
