This End of Course Exam is typically given to freshmen in NC. Currently this test counts, under state law, 25% of a student's grade for the course. The State Board proposed, then tabled, a policy to make a passing the course contingent upon passing the test. Johnson County had a policy  ("Policy 842) to give a student a grade no higher than "D" if he or she failed the EOC test. Under a threat of a lawsuit, the county rescinded Policy 842.
