The Latest Projects

I have a Formula .40 Speed Model under construction at present. Motive power is provided by Rossi .40, of which I have 2 types available, Front Intake/Rear Exhaust or Rear Intake, Rear Exhaust. The choice of engine will be determined after some bench tests.

The RIRE started life as a FAI F3D engine and has been extensively modified to make it suitable for Formula .40. This entailed removing the F3D sleeve which has timing too radical for a mini-pipe replacing it with a retimed 37R40 sleeve, boring the exhaust, and installing a larger intake venturi.

The Front Intake is a hybrid, basically extracted from parts of a FI/SE which I have installed in the new crankcase after a few modifications. The pan is a Darp formula .40 Magnesium pan, the aircraft will be based on the Wisniewski "Pink Lady". The superb mini-pipes, venturis, crankshaft, crankcase and liner modifications, pan machining services and needle valve were supplied by the engine modification maestro, Nic van der Westhuizen of Unic.

The first 2 pictures are of the two Rossis, and the last picture my latest acquisition, a Nelson .65 "D" Speed engine. The case says "OS" and stems from an OS .65 VF DF (ducted fan) engine, however all the rest is manufactured by Henry Nelson, including a change from rear induction to front induction with a huge crankshaft.
