Well, we are off to a great start this year.  We had to go to the 3rd tiebreaker to determine this week’s winners.

What an amazing week of games!!  1 of our games took 3 overtimes to settle and a couple of them went down to the wire, including our game of the week.  Alabama is going to be a team to watch out for when they get off of probation.  I am sure that many of you are wondering why I didn’t have the Florida @ Miami game as part of last week’s Pick 10.  There is a simple reason for that omission, I didn’t expect it to be as good of a game as it turned out to be, that’s why I left it off.

Some of these games went right down to the wire, and some of the ones that I didn’t think were good enough to be included in this week’s contest (N. C. State at Ohio State) turned out to be the best game of the week.  There were 3 games this week that ruined almost everyone’s game:  Louisville over Syracuse, Washington State over Colorado, and Arkansas over Texas.  No one got all 3 of those games right.

We have had our 1st repeat winner of the season.  We also had our largest ever participation in the Weekly Pick 10.  40 of you guys played the game this week.  Thank you all for playing the game.  Oregon surprised most everyone by upsetting Michigan.  Only 2 of you correctly predicted that game.  Only 8 people had Michigan State beating Notre Dame this week.  One thing that this weekend has me wondering, should we start the campaign now to have the MAC replace the Big East as a BCS conference after Marshall beat Kansas State and Northern Illinois beat Alabama, both on the road?

It was another week of record participation in the Pick 10.  I don’t know where to start talking about this week.  For the 1st time that I can recall, the featured game of the week went to overtime.  What an amazing finish to the Arkansas vs. Alabama game that was.  There were several other overtimes this week that made Saturday very exciting.  I’ll admit that last week I may have jumped on the MAC bandwagon a little prematurely.  That horrible thud you just heard was me jumping off this week.

We had an 8 way tie for positions 3-5 this week.  Ole Miss’s upset of Florida surprised almost everyone this week.  Only 3 people correctly predicted that one.  Another surprise for most everyone was Auburn beating Tennessee.  Next week’s games feature some real big ones.

Separation Saturday was a wild one, that’s for sure.  No one expected Oklahoma to dominate Texas like they did yesterday (but I will admit to a certain degree of satisfaction, seeing as how I am a Sooners fan, LOL).  There were quite a few changes in the college football landscape yesterday.  There are only 5 unbeaten teams left, will there be any by the time we get to the Sugar Bowl?

If  you weren’t perfect, or very nearly so, you didn’t have much of a chance this week.  2 perfect scores and 9 different people with 9 correct picks.  One person was only 3 points off on the score.  From the results of everyone’s picks, this was one of the easier weeks of the Pick 10 for the season.  The 1st BCS rankings come out on Monday; will TCU or Northern Illinois get any respect there?  For some reason, I doubt it.

It was another week where perfection was required to win.  The Tennessee-Alabama game was a classic.  It was the 2nd time in the last few weeks that the featured game went to overtime.  Notre Dame vs Boston College was in doubt right up till the end as well.  The BCS standings came out for the 1st time this week, and as expected there was some immediate shakeups at the top, thanks to West Virginia.

What a great week of games:  the World's Largest Outdoor Cocktail Party, Bedlam in the Big XII, the Brawl in Blacksburg all in the same day.  How much will the BCS standings get shook up?  Only way to tell is to check in Monday evening.  Now there are only 2 unbeaten teams left:  Oklahoma and TCU.  Will TCU be able to make it into the bottom of the BCS?  Let’s wait and see.  My apologies to Kinlee, Marty, Cockleburr, puffinstuf, and kp, those who I had originally listed as this week’s winners.  The list above is correct as to the placements for this week’s winners.  The season standings also reflects an accurate point total for everyone.

It certainly was an interesting week.  Miami, Virginia Tech, and Florida State all lost, and judging from this week’s entries, not to many of you expected that.  In fact, no one predicted that Clemson would upset Florida State.  I made a mistake on this week’s game and had the South Carolina at Arkansas game included, even though it was played on Thursday night.  Everyone received a point for that game, regardless of whom they picked.  The season point’s race is beginning to tighten up.

There were no real shocking games this week, for a change.  Ohio State escapes with another improbable win.  Florida State needed overtime to dispose of N.C. State.  We had our 1st perfect game in weeks, congratulations to Gypsy.  There are only 2 more full weeks in the regular season.

Rivalry week lived up to its billing this year.  Was it just me, or was the finish of the Washington State at Washington game one of the most exciting finishes of the year?  The season points race is really getting tight with 4 people within 8 points of the lead with only 1 more full week to go in the regular season.  There will also be a game the Saturday of the conference championships, even if it will not be a full sized (10 games) one.

This was the last full week of the pick 10 and we still have a close race for the regular season championship.  Maybe next week’s game will decide it once and for all.  Florida showed yesterday that the only thing the prevent defense does is to prevent you from winning.  How could the defensive back allow the receiver to get behind him?  Congratulations to Gypsy for our 1st perfect score in a couple of weeks.

Judging from this week’s entries, most of you are as surprised as I am by last nights Big XII Championship game.  Kansas State beat the stuffing out of my Sooners last night.  If the Wildcats had played that well all year, they would be heading to the Sugar Bowl.  All 5 of our winners this week missed the same game.  That is the 1st time that I can recall that happening.  Congratulations go out to toosie, our regular season champion.  Toosie edged out Chels and Kinlee to win the regular season championship of the Pick 10.  The Bowls Edition of the Pick 10 is worth twice the points, with more points paying positions as well, so the overall standings are still up for grabs.

Well, another college football season has come to an end.  I hope that everyone enjoyed the bowls this year.  It was a great season and I want to thank everyone for playing this year.  I hope that you all had as much fun playing the Weekly Pick 10 as I had producing the contest.  I want to congratulate everyone for another job well done.  We’ll see you in August with another year of the Weekly Pick 10.

You get 10 points for winning, 8 points for 2nd, 6 points for 3rd, 4 points for 4th and 2 points for 5th. The points will carry over throughout the season. The person with the most points at the end of the season will be declared the most knowledgeable Pick 10 College football fan.
