I was on a degree called  Independent Study  which meant I wrote my own programme of study. I created most of my own units. This entailed creating a work structure around a topic, saying how I would like to have the work marked  [how many essays, reports. etc.] and creating a marking scheme for 120 credits out of 240. This may sound like a dream but it was a nightmare. Each year you had to submit a proposal to the course committee for permission to progress. Even if you passed all your units you could not proceed to the next year until your proposal had been accepted. What this basically meant was that at undergraduate level we were expected to do what entire university departments do when they wish to start a new degree programme; i.e. WRITE A DEGREE! I was one of the final 8 people taking this course at this university as it has been scraped. Although similar programmes run successfully at other universities it had become something of a problem for this faculty.

I was born on Oct 7th 1971, I have 4 sisters and no "real" brothers, although as you will read later one of my campers has become my "little brother" . I have travelled extensively over the last 10 years, France, Spain, Italy, Austria, Switzerland, Portugal, Belgium, Luxemburg and of course the USA. I have visited many States and have travelled Coast to Coast by Greyhound bus on more than one occasion. San Francisco- Mississippi- Raliegh-NYC. / Jacksonville N.C- Mississppi - San Francisco. It was always a gruelling trek but a lot of fun.

I have just moved into a new house, at the moment only one of the other tenants is in the house, another will return in the fall and we are looking for a fourth. I think we will all get along well, I hope so because I am on a Post Graduate teaching course this year and it is very intensive. I do not need problems at home to give me any additional stress. I have wanted to teach for as long as I can remember , that is one reason why I have done Camp for so many years. Competition for places is very high and with most courses only having between 50 and 80 places and sometimes as many as 300 applicants you do the math. After months of rejections I finally got a place at my First Choice university, even though they had rejected me back in october. I am really happy with this because it means I get to spend another year in Manchester.

Enough boring facts about me go back to the index and read what this page is really all about.
