Group Reflection Notes

The presentation started on 6 October 2004 at 8pm. All the group members were participated in presentation discussion and materials.

SWOT analysis about the presentation

Strength:
• The workshop topics were well explained
• We used pictures to show how virtual worlds look like
• Good communication between group members and students
• The presentation covered most important aspects
• Most questions were answered sufficiently by the members
• We provided some questions for students

Weakness:
• Slides were little to big and some slides had pictures that were not visible
• There were some technical problems when changing the slides
• Some students went to another chatting room
• Discussion too focused on game environment
• Some students were asked questions not related to the topics

Opportunities:
• we would had better presentation if students were more focused on the presentation
• some question were provided by students and group members gave some opportunities for both sides in exchanging information

Threats:
• More time needed, as we all know that we need to type. The time of presentation was depending on group members and students typing skills.
• People did not join into the right virtual class room and not on time. This made the presentation took longer.

started off with discussion about different types of games and whether they are virtual worlds. During this discussion I realised some people might not be familiar with some terms i used. Maybe should have explained a bit more how online adventure games work. And perhaps a few more screenshots to show other types of things you can do inside the game. Moved on to social/ relational aspects of virtual worlds eg. do they need rules ? Some people were shocked that many computer games involve a lot of virtual fighting and killing. Then discussed other types of virtual worlds including virtual relationships ( and virtual kisses ! that was funny). Asked whether VWs could become an important part of the humans' social lives. There was a fair bit of discussion about this. Also talked about possible disadvantage of virtual worlds - becoming addicted, spending too much time playing a computer game. Possibility that some people might prefer to spend time/ live in the virtual world instead of the physical world.
