A Little about Me

My name is Nick Blankenburg, welcome to my own little corner of the Internet!  I hope you enjoy your stay!

So why am I any different than your average Joe?  I'm a nice guy, a genuine guy, a sweet guy, a giving guy, and a smart guy (these are all things others have told me, I'm not just making this up).  I like to help others, in whatever way possible.  That could be bringing some soup on a rainy day, providing a shoulder to cry on, or providing a little motivation to a friend in need.  That's who I am.  That's why I'm different.

I am a quadriplegic, a result of a car accident my senior year of high school.  My injury has left me with only partial use of my left arm.  But, despite this, I still get out and live life.  My outlook on life is different, and often what surprises people most.  I've still got a lot of life to live, and a lot of love to give.  This glass is definitely half-full.  Still too many women to seduce, places to see, and adventures to fulfill!  No time for mourning here.  It has caused me to grow up a heck of a lot faster than I likely would have otherwise, and given me a whole new perspective on life, and the role I can have in the lives of others.  It's a heck of a challenge, but one I welcome wholeheartedly!

I think life is too short to live scared. Live, love, and have no regrets. Aspire to achieve your dreams. And share those dreams, and ultimately those achievements with those you love best!

Over the last year and a half I've had a few sad and even frightening experiences, reminding me of the finite nature of life. The most recent has made me realize what things are truly important and what things really are more trivial. Some of you, my friends, are the most important thing to me, and perhaps sometimes I take that for granted. You are the glue that keeps me from crumbling into pieces. I'm going to really try and make more of an effort, maybe stop holding back so much, and hopefully make the most of every day we have. I do not know what tomorrow will bring, so I hope today we can smile and laugh together. It won't be easy. I'm so used to putting on a brave front, doing my darndest not to let people know how worn down I truly am. I always try and convince myself it's for the greater good, but I now realize that I can't serve the greater good very well if it's tearing me up in the process.

Whatever's in the past, let's just try from now on to make some new smiles together. Let's grow together, put the bad days behind us, and make every day from now on better than the last! I think we can do it. Let's give it a try. What do we have to lose? It's much better to try, even if things don't work out, than to not try at all. Not trying at all would be the only way we could truly lose.

Anyways, for those of you who don't know me, I probably seem pretty complicated and a little crazy right now. That's not really the case.  You just have to take a little bit of time getting to know me, but then you'll see for yourself.  So hop on and, fasten your seatbelt, and enjoy the ride!

I really enjoy meeting new people. Just give me a little time and I will start to come out of my shell. Those who take the time to get to know me typically stick around for a while, so hopefully that says it all. Feel free to send me a message on AIM to nblankenburg or on MSN messenger at [email protected] and see for yourself.
