These rules, in addition to the NBHA rule book are intended to enhance the integrity of our district and the quality of our shows, as well as to answer questions that may arise during the competition year.  It is the responsibility of the member to read and understand the district rules as well as those of the national office and abide by them accordingly.  Failure to do so may lead to disqualification, suspension, or being banned from NBHA.  Non-members participating in any NBHA TX 28 function will also be subject to these rules.

GENERAL COMPETITION RULES:

All entry forms must be completed in full and signed; minors entries MUST be signed by a parent/guardian.

An NBHA Assumption of Risk, Waiver and Release of Liability and Indemnification Agreement must be signed by ALL PARTICIPANTS prior to competing in any NBHA sanctioned show or sponsored events.

Order of events will be as follows, regardless of whether it is a day show or night show:  Barrel exhibitionsapprox. 2 hrs; Future Champs; Open 4D; Youth 3D; Pole exhibitions (30 minutes); 3D Poles; & after show exhibitions.  Starting times are attached to the schedule sheet.

Entry Fees: All exhibitions $4; Future Champs $10; Open  $30; Youth $25; Senior  $15; Poles $20.  All classes include a $4 office fee--$1 for state awards & $3 for district awards.  The rest will be jackpotted at 80% with the exception of the Future Champs class, which will receive participation ribbons at each show and awards at the end of the year.   There will be an additional non-member fee of $5 (one time per show).

We will draw a number (1-5) prior to the start of a class (to determine the first drag) and then drag every 5 runs after that.  This is the fairest way for all contestants to have a chance at running on the top of the ground.  Barrel racers will be moved up if there are gaps on the run sheet.  In the Youth, we may drag more often as needed to allow time for horse changes.

It is the responsibility of the barrel racers to call if the weather or any other situation is questionable.  Lori Behlen 830-857-4779keep calling until you reach me; I will not have time to check messages & return calls on the day of the show.

Dress codeboots or riding shoes and jeans.  No shorts, halter tops, or strapless tops (this applies to ALL events & age groups).  Although NBHA endorses a full dress code, we will not enforce this at district shows.  However, any contestant wearing attire deemed inappropriate by the District Director will not be allowed to compete until corrected.  Use common sense!

Coggins papersIt is the responsibility of the contestant to have in your possession proof of current negative Coggins on each horse brought to a show.  This is a state law and an NBHA rule, so please have these papers available.  The district may do a random check, or a representative of the Texas Animal Health Commission may be on site.  If a check is done, anyone not in compliance will be asked to leave the grounds; fees will NOT be refunded; and possible suspension from NBHA could result.

NBHA members are expected to conduct themselves in a sportsmanlike manner at all times.  Any disruptive behavior by a member, non-member, their family, guardian, or guests may lead to removal from the premises and possible suspension & being banned from the NBHA.  The use of profanity will result in a warning by the District Director, and the 2nd time can lead to the disqualification of the runner.  This is a district and national rule.

The District Director will mail checks the week after a show to any one who does not collect their winnings at the race.  It is the barrel racers responsibility to notify the district & the national office of any changes of address/phone numbers.

NO REFUNDS AFTER THE FIRST HORSE RUNS IN YOUR CLASS.  No refunds on exhibitionsif you do not take them prior to the show, they can be taken after the pole class is over.

It is your responsibility to pick up newsletters, schedules, etc at the jackpots.  Any new rules or amendments will be in the newsletters and on the website.

BOOKS WILL REMAIN OPEN UNTIL THE LAST 10 RUNNERS.

Dogs must be on a leash at all times & NEVER in the arena.

YEAR END AWARDS:

In order to qualify for year end awards, members are required to bring in a $50 sponsor, earn 15 work points, & compete in at least 9 point shows.

Points will be kept on the rider only in all classes.  This is how points are kept at all levels of the NBHA.

Members eligible for district year end awards must have all requirements met by the end of the final show.  If  not, then the next eligible member will be moved up into that spot.  Your membership must not expire before the year end awards are given.

Ties will be broken by:
1. Number of sanctioned district shows competed in.
2. Amount of money won in that division in point shows.
3. Number of work points earned.
4. Number of 1st places, 2nd places, etc..

The number and value of awards will depend on available funds at the end of the competition year.  All classes will be self-funding (in other words, the money that each class makes at the point shows will go to the prizes for that class).  Income from the fundraiser barrel races, non-member fees, cash raffles, sponsors, & vendor fees will be considered general funds and  divided as follows:  50% to Open Barrels; 30 % to Youth Barrels, 15% to Senior Barrels, & 5% to Poles.  Silent auction items can be designated to a specific class.  Classes may also sponsor their own fundraisers.

An ALL AROUND award will be given to the highest placing rider who has competed in at least 9 shows in both barrels and poles.

WORK POINTS:

15 work points per year are required to be eligible for district awards.

NEW!!  Members running more than one horse in a class (at point shows only) will be given work point for each additional horse entered.  Make sure to note the extra points on the list included with the work point sheets. This is your responsibility!

Work points can be earned by doing physical work (ie: taking entries, setting barrels, setting up the arena, etc.), & by bringing in sponsors & new members, donating items for the silent auctions, & turning in receipts from our current sponsors.  There are also jobs available such as record keeping, etc.  See the District Director to find out what is available.

If you work for another member, put their name on the work point sheet at that time.  You may not transfer points later except within immediate family.

There will be a prize awarded at the end of the year for the member with the most work points.  Points can be earned at the fundraiser shows as well as at point shows. MAKE SURE YOU ARE LISTED ON THE WORK SHEET THE DAY OF THE SHOW.  We will not go back later and figure out if & when you worked.

All members are required to bring in $50 in sponsor money.  This can be one sponsor or two $25 sponsors or can be paid outright by the member.  No points will be given for this, but points will be given for any additional sponsors brought in1 point per $50.  An $800 sponsor will cover all 15 work points for the year. Sponsor money is very important to the quality of prizes we can give.  Sponsorship request letters may be picked up from your director. Have checks made payable to NBHA TX District 28.  A sponsorship includes advertising at our jackpots, in our newsletters, and on our website-----and we encourage our members to spend money at their business by offering work points in return for receipts.   In addition to the other acknowledgements, for $200-$750, a sponsor will have a medium- sized banner displayed in the arena at all races.  .An $800 or more sponsor will receive a large arena banner.  These sponsors will also be invited to participate in our awards presentation.

FUNDRAISERS:

We will have a 50/50 cash raffle at each point show--$1 per ticket with the pot being split between the district and the holder of the winning ticket.  Drawing will be held at the end of the Open Barrels.

Silent Auction:  Please bring donations whenever possible so that we have items available at each show.   point for items selling for less than $10---1 point for those selling for $10 or more.  Baked goods are always popular.  If your item does not sell, please pick it up at the end of the show.  Proceeds may be designated to a particular class.

Vendors---if you know of anyone that would like to set up a booth at our shows, they may do so for $15/show or $150 for the year.  No unapproved vendors will be allowed.

It has been suggested that we could sell tee shirts or travel mugs with our district logo on them.   If there are any artists in our district, please submit logo designs to the district director, along with any other ideas  you may have for fundraisers.
