The True Meaning of Christmas
The purpose of the Christmas season was originally to celebrate the birth of Christ. Sadly now it has lost its meaning and is politically incorrect to say even Merry Christmas because by doing so we may offend those who are not Christian by faith. Instead we are now supposed to use "Happy Holidays" "Seasons Greetings" or other salutations which do not relate to the season to Jesus Christ, the redeemer of mankind who is the reason of the season. Isn't it time we who are Christians started to take back the things which are so gradually being taken from us? Why do we allow those who dare to say that they are offended by our Lord and Saviour to rob us of this Blessed season. How long will it be before the carols cease and the message of Peace on Earth, goodwill to man is lost forever. We who bear the title Christian must stand and have our voices heard because Jesus Christ is the only hope that humanity has in this lost and dying world. We need to tell and retell that blessed story of old, and let the world know that Jesus is still able to fulfill the purpose for which he came.
Isaiah 9:6 prophesying His birth tells us: For unto us a child is born, unto us a Son is given: and the government shall be upon His shoulder: and His Name shall be called Wonderful, Councellor, The Mighty God, The Everlasting Father, The Prince Of Peace. And through the ages He has remained all that. If we could just get hold of that fact the The Almighty God and The Everlasting Father, The Creator of the universe wrapped Himself in human flesh and came and walked amoung us. If we could somehow help the world to understand that this fact is why we celebrate Christmas, how different the world would be, what peace would be possible. In Luke 2 we read the precious story of the Birth of Jesus, how that in the latter stages of her pregnancy Mary had to make the long trip to Bethlehem with Joseph to be registered to be taxed and how the time came for Jesus to be born while they were there. As Joseph searched for shelter it seemed that noone had room for them. Sadly that is the situation today as He is about to come again, people still do not make room for Him. We are told that the little family finally found shelter in a stable, and there, in the lowliest of circumstances, Jesus, our redeemer was born. No wonder the angels sang, no wonder the shepherds came to worship. Think of the beauty of it, He was God robed in flesh. He was Emmanual, God with us.
The Bible also tells us that the Wise Men also came to bring gifts and worship Him. They travelled a great distance to come to see this Marvellous Child who would mean so much to the human race. Today we can come to Jesus just as we are. We need to preperation. The only gift He asks is that we love and serve Him. There is a popular saying today that says, "Wise men still seek Him" and how true that is. Luke tells how Mary wrapped Him in swaddling clothes and laid Him in a manger because there was no room in the Inn. Matthew tells us how when they brought Him to Galgotha they crucified Him fulfilling His reason for coming. Isn't that enough reason to celebrate His birth and make room for Him in our lives today.
This was written by my mother Marion. I want to tell her how much I love her and appreciate her and I am also thankful for the time and thought she took to write this up for me. I humbly wish each and everyone of you a very BLESSED AND MERRY CHRISTMAS
